Modernizing IS-U Sales Statistics Reporting with SAP Data Solutions

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the new data solution provided by SAP.

Modernizing IS-U Sales Statistics Reporting with SAP Data Solutions

The introduction of SAP Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) marks the strategic shift from traditional SAP Business Warehouse (BW) content, including the former BW content for Sales Statistics, to a cloud-native, integrated data and analytics platform. This new data solution provides a modern, flexible, and unified approach to reporting and planning for utility companies utilizing SAP IS-U/S/4HANA Utilities.

SAP Datasphere: The Foundation for IS-U Data Fabric

SAP Datasphere serves as the next-generation data warehouse and the technological foundation for the Business Data Fabric. It replaces the historical BW content by providing a unified semantic layer for all data, whether it resides in the cloud or on-premise.

  • Successor to BW: Datasphere is positioned as the successor to SAP BW, enabling customers to migrate and modernize their existing BW investments. * SAP BW Bridge: For organizations transitioning their existing SAP IS-U BW Content (such as Sales Statistics data flows), the SAP BW Bridge component of Datasphere is crucial. It allows for the reuse of existing BW data structures, objects, and business logic, minimizing disruption and protecting prior investments while gradually moving to the cloud architecture.

  • Data Integration and Modeling: Datasphere handles the data integration, cleansing, and modeling required for robust utility analytics. It connects directly to SAP S/4HANA Utilities data sources, often leveraging the Operational Data Provisioning (ODP) framework, ensuring real-time delta queue replication.

Modernizing IS-U Sales Statistics (Former BW Content)

The new data solution provides specific, ready-to-deploy SAP Utilities Business Content that directly addresses the reporting needs previously met by BW, UIS (Utilities Information System), and CO-PA.

  • Pre-built Content: SAP provides pre-configured data architecture within Datasphere specifically for Sales Statistics for SAP S/4HANA Utilities. This content is designed to replace traditional reporting mechanisms, offering an accelerated path to deployment.

  • Key Date Logic (Billed & Unbilled Revenue): A critical feature is the intelligent key date logic that is built into the Datasphere persistence and models. This logic automatically separates actual (billed) revenue data from simulated (unbilled) revenue data, allowing for the seamless blending of both metrics. This ensures accurate financial reporting and balance sheet preparation for utilities with rolling billing cycles.

  • Data Structure: The content is built on specialized ODP DataSources from S/4HANA Utilities, providing the necessary master data (e.g., Premise, Installation, Contract) and transactional data for sales analysis.

SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC): Reporting and Analysis

SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) acts as the consumption layer, providing the front-end interface for visualization, reporting, planning, and predictive analytics, all powered by the trusted data models in Datasphere.

  • Pre-configured Stories: A pre-configured Sales Statistics Story is available in SAC, designed to seamlessly consume the data exposed by the SAP Datasphere Sales Statistics model.

  • KPI-Driven Insights: This Story delivers immediate, KPI-driven insights focused on key metrics such as net amounts and energy quantities.

  • Flexible Filtering: Users can analyze performance by filtering dimensions such as rate category, division, billing class, country, and fiscal periods. This enables granular and comprehensive analysis that replaces the fixed structure of former BW reporting.

  • Self-Service and Planning: SAC empowers business users with self-service analytics capabilities and serves as the primary platform for sales planning, budgeting, and forecasting scenarios, often leveraging the data sourced and structured by SAP Datasphere.
