Planning in Labor Management

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to use planning and simulation functionality in Labor Management in SAP EWM

Planned Workload Document

Note

See the following video to learn more about a planned workload document:

If you have implemented the BAdI /SCWM/EX_LM_WRKL_QUAN, you can include the quantity in the planned workload. This does not apply to workload records for VAS activities. In the case of VAS activities, the system sets the quantity. This corresponds to the open quantity of the VAS activity.

Operational Planning

Planning in Labor Management

You use operational planning to define calculated planning goals based on the workload, processors, and, if required, a calculated measurement service (CMS). You create the planning formulas in the formula editor. A planning formula is valid for one warehouse number and external process step, and is, for example, intended for calculating the number of required employees based on the planned workload.

Key figures used for planning can be determined with a calculated measurement service. An example could be the number of workloads per processor in the last month, to calculate the number of required processors for the actual workload.

Uses of Operational Planning

Operational Planning:

  • Provides a short-term overview of the warehouse (the next hours or days).

  • Is used for short-term determination of work and resources.

  • Provides a rough estimate of the workload.

  • Considers one or more activity areas and external process steps.

The planning functions is called from the SAP Easy Access screen, by choosing Extended Warehouse ManagementLabor ManagementPlanningPlanning and Simulation.

The processors are selected by their standard activity area and their standard process step.

In the simple search, the system arranges the planning formulas into alphabetical order, and takes the formula that occurs first in the alphabetical order. You can select a separate planning formula for each external process step by choosing Assign Formula in the Enhanced Search.

Simulation of Planning

You use simulation lines to find out how changes in the planning environment, such as expected workload, would affect the result.

You can change the specified data manually, and reevaluate the planning formulas based on this changed data. You can change the aggregated information, such as planned workload and processor, as well as the detailed data of the individually planned workload records, individual processors, and the results of the calculated measurement services. The system only saves these changes temporarily. When you close the transaction, the system discards the changes. After each manual change, the system initializes the result of the planning formula. If you activated automatic planning, the result is calculated again each time a manual change takes place.

Summary

  • Depending on the activation of the internal process steps, a planned workload document is created when you create a document that is labor management relevant. The planned workload document contains data relevant for Labor Management like the activity, the activity area, and the travel distance (if defined).
  • You use operational planning to define calculated planning goals based on the workload, processors, and, if required, a calculated measurement service (CMS).
  • You use simulation lines to find out how changes in the planning environment, such as expected workload, would affect the result.
