Identifying Data Sources that Connect to a Universe

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain the purpose of the Product Availability Matrix (PAM) in the context universe design with SAP BusinessObjects Information Design Tool.

Watch the video to learn how to avoid critical support and stability issues in your SAP BusinessObjects project.

Check if a Data Source is Supported for Creating a Universe

Go to the SAP Support Portal’s Product Availability Matrix at https://support.sap.com/pam and, when prompted, sign in with your S-user ID.

Choose Access the product availability matrix and switch to Display all product versions.

In the search field, enter the name of your SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform (for example, SBOP BI PLATFORM 2025) and select the exact match.

Open Essential information and, in the table of contents, choose Relational semantic layer data sources.

In the matrix, find your data source and review the Provider name, Version, Middleware type, Minimum middleware version, Supported since, and Notes columns to confirm it is supported for creating a universe in SAP BusinessObjects Information Design Tool.

SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence, SAP Crystal Reports, and SAP Analytics Cloud connect to universes, which access multiple data sources including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, SAP BW/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA, SAP Datasphere, SAP HANA and Snowflake.

Let's Summarize What You've Learned

  • The SAP Product Availability Matrix (PAM) is the official SAP tool for checking supported technologies for each SAP product version.
  • Always verify your data source compatibility in the SAP Product Availability Matrix (PAM) before building a universe with SAP BusinessObjects Information Design Tool.
  • Using unsupported technologies can lead to lack of SAP support, functionality issues, and system instability.
  • SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence 2025, SAP Crystal Reports 2025, and SAP Analytics Cloud connect to universes, which access multiple data sources including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Server, SAP BW/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA, SAP Datasphere, SAP HANA and Snowflake.
