Creating an Equipment Card for a Serial Number Item and Defining Service Contracts

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to set up an automatic generation for equipment cards for a serial number item and associate a service contract template with a serial number item.

How to Generate an Equipment Card and Service Contract

OEC Computers sell mobile phones with a warranty and a service contract so that a customer can request a service whenever the item needs repair. In this video, Julie, the Customer Service Manager at OEC Computers, will show you how she sets up an automatic process in the system for this scenario.

Note that equipment cards and service contracts can be also created manually and managed in the Service tab in SAP Business One, Web client. For more details refer to the User Guide:

Summary

  • To allow an automatic process, carry out the following:
    • Enable the option for automatic creation of an equipment card for items managed by serial numbers. You can do this in the Web client Configuration, under Service Settings.
    • For the item:
      • Define it to be managed by serial numbers.
      • In the Warranty Template field, choose a serial number contract type.
  • When the item is sold via a Delivery doc (or an A/R Invoice), the system automatically creates:
    • An equipment card for this customer and this serialized item.
    • Service (warranty) contract that you can edit.
  • Equipment cards and service contracts can also be created manually in the Service tab.
