Discovering Industry AI applications with built-in vertical process knowledge, data models, and regulatory logic

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to discover how SAP leverages industry-specific AI and interconnected autonomous domains to enable end-to-end, outcome-driven business processes and deliver competitive advantage across key industry domains.

Industry AI: From Systems of Record to Autonomous Execution

The Industry AI portfolio covers all SAP industries, delivered through industry-specific scenarios comprising relevant applications, data models, and agentic capabilities. Together they represent end-to-end business processes spanning lines of business.

Industry AI is SAP's strategic path to transforming enterprise software from systems of record into systems of autonomous execution, purpose-built for the realities of specific industries. Industry AI targets the end-to-end processes that define how value is created, regulated, and delivered across industries. These processes are deeply contextual, tightly integrated, and often subject to the highest levels of regulatory and operational complexity.

Industry AI translates sector-specific process logic, data models, and regulatory requirements directly into agentic solutions. Rather than bolting intelligence onto existing applications, Industry AI brings autonomous decision-making and execution into the core of industry value chains — accelerating value realization while providing a disciplined path from co-innovation to scalable, productized solutions.

At the center of this approach are autonomous industry domains: groups of highly connected agentic business capabilities that span functions and, in many cases, multiple industries — such as asset management, regulated manufacturing, or adaptive production. Industry AI is realized through autonomous industry solutions validated via the Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) approach, orchestrating agentic workflows across applications, data, and processes.

One example is Autonomous Adaptive Production. Its agentic workflows orchestrate planning, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and service to continuously align demand, capacity, materials, and execution. Instead of optimizing individual functions in isolation, networks of agents collaborate across lines of business to manage engineering changes, production adjustments, and resource allocation in response to demand volatility, supply disruptions, and regulatory constraints — improving resilience, speed, and end-to-end execution across complex production landscapes.

Nothing of this scope exists in the market today. SAP's ability to lead in Industry AI is grounded in a unique combination of deep industry expertise, unrivaled portfolio breadth, and decades of engineering and customer co-innovation in the most demanding enterprise environments.

Slide presenting Industry AI as an AI layer that already understands how specific industries operate, built on 50 years of co-innovation with 98 of the world's 100 largest companies across 25+ industries. Seven autonomous industry themes are listed, each paired with a target sector: Autonomous Asset Management (Oil, Gas & Energy), Autonomous Commodity Management (Agribusiness), Autonomous Adaptive Production (Industrial Manufacturing), Autonomous Regulated Manufacturing (Life Sciences), Autonomous Revenue Growth Management (Consumer Products), Autonomous Unified Commerce (Retail), and Autonomous Project Delivery (Professional Services).

Priority Industry Domains

To date, seven priority industry domains have been identified, overlapping with the autonomous domains:

Autonomous Industry DomainDescription
Autonomous Asset ManagementAchieving financially optimized operations via autonomous, closed-loop asset, supply chain and workforce orchestration
Autonomous Commodity ManagementTighten the Commodity origination, distribution, processing and downstream sales processes by supporting Commodity Traders, supply chain and production planners and bulk transportation specialists with AI assistants
Autonomous Adaptive ProductionShifting from siloed execution steps in a life cycle of a product with variants and engineering parts to a seamless flow between engineering, sales, production, and service with the aid of agents
Autonomous Regulated ManufacturingShifting from siloed execution steps in a life cycle of a complex product to a seamless flow between engineering, sales, production, and service with the aid of agents
Autonomous Revenue Growth ManagementWe envision a system where trade strategy is not just planned but mathematically optimized for profit before negotiation, and where execution is not just scheduled but dynamically triggered by real-time demand
Autonomous Unified CommerceA unified, intelligent operating system that continuously orchestrates merchandising, planning, marketing, shopping, and fulfilment across the entire retail value chain
Autonomous Project DeliveryAutomates the end-to-end lifecycle of projects, including opportunity and scoping, project setup and staffing, and financial management and billing

The development of these autonomous industry domains proceeds through the Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) engagement model, partnering with select ECC and Private Cloud customers for fast feedback and iteration while identifying best practices for their designs. As the library of best practices expands, these engagements are refined into standardized systems of agents for wider commercialization with Cloud ERP customers.

Below is an example of how SAP aims to transform industries with even the most complex regulatory or operational environments with specialized AI solutions and autonomous domains.

Industry AI in action for Oil, Gas and Energy

Autonomous Asset Management overcomes siloed systems and inconsistent human decisions by combining AI, knowledge graphs, and end-to-end automation, orchestrating assets, maintenance activities, health & safety, and connected supply chains to optimize financial returns and reduce operational risk. This delivers substantial value for customers, including but not limited to: 10-30% reduction in unplanned downtime, 5-30% reduction in total maintenance costs, and 10-30% reduction in working capital.
