The Apply Regulations Dangerous Goods app provides access to dangerous goods regulations, represented by activated compliance requirements, for integrated processing. Integrated processing means that regulations can be identified for a specific country or region/region and mode of transport. This is essential for conducting dangerous goods checks. For a country/region, the following modes of transport are defined: output of dangerous goods documents.
You have two options to apply regulations for dangerous goods:
- Prefill Regulations for countries/regions - This means applying regulations according to the definition given in the compliance requirement. This definition implies the regulation's validity for countries/regions and assigned modes of transport.
- Apply regulations for a country/region lacking dangerous goods regulations, where transport is forbidden for domestic modes of transport or even for all modes of transport.
The following modes of transport are defined for a country/region:
- International modes of transport include: aircraft and ocean;
- Domestic modes of transport: road, rail, and inland waterway.
Dangerous goods check rules can be specified for each mode of transport:
- Regulation dependent – a dangerous goods compliance requirement representing a regulation must be assigned.
- Transport allowed – no need to assign a regulation.
- Transport forbidden.
Note
As long as at least one dangerous goods regulation, represented by a dangerous goods compliance requirement, is not applied to a country/region, transport is forbidden for all modes of transport. This pre-set ensures that the applicability of dangerous goods regulations must be evaluated before dangerous goods can be shipped to a country/region.
Dangerous goods can be shipped to a country/region when at least one regulation is assigned to an international mode of transport and one domestic mode of transport.
Alternatively, a setting can be applied for the country/region and mode of transport, which means that transport of dangerous goods is always allowed, and no dangerous goods regulation is assigned.
Integrated dangerous goods checks evaluate the settings according to the mode of transport for affected countries/regions.
Option 1: You make content-based compliance requirements, provided with the system-embedded regulatory content, available for processing. Here, processing refers to the assignment of activated compliance requirements to specific compliance purposes. By assigning a compliance purpose to a compliance view, the assigned compliance requirements become available for assessment within the compliance view.
Option 2: Applies to countries/regions or modes of transport for which no compliance requirements are available. You need to investigate and decide which regulations are most suitable for the missing country/region and mode of transport.
Apply regulations - For the processing of integrated dangerous goods checks and the output of dangerous goods information, regulations must be applied to countries/regions and modes of transport.
If no specific regulation is available for a country/region, you can apply a regulation - a compliance requirement - that exists in the system and appears suitable.
When you open the Apply Regulations Dangerous Goods app, you are directly taken to the map view, which provides an overview of transport permit requirements by country/region. You can open the legend to see the meaning of the different colors:
- Green - Transport is allowed for specified modes of transport, which means at least one international and one domestic mode of transport is allowed.
- Orange - Transport is not allowed for domestic modes of transport; international modes of transport are allowed.
- Grey - Transport is forbidden for all modes of transport. This is the default setting if no regulation is applied using the prefill or apply functionality.

In both views, you can use the Prefill Regulations for Countries/Regions action to assign applicable dangerous goods regulations based on validity and transport mode definitions in the active compliance requirement version.

The following example is for Saudi Arabia.
No regulations are applied to Saudi Arabia, neither by the prefill nor by any other setting. The pre-set Always Forbidden is assigned to all modes of transport.
This would block transport to Saudi Arabia, so the following regulations should be applied.
International modes of transport include:
Transport check rule: The Regulation is Dependent on the regulations IATA-DGR for Aircraft and IMDG for Deep Water, both of which are in English.
Dangerous Check rules can be applied as follows:
- Transport Allowed: Transport is always allowed - no dangerous goods regulation is assigned.
- Regulation Dependent: The check is processed based on the defined dangerous goods regulation.
- Transport Forbidden: The dangerous goods regulation situation is either unknown or undefined (Default).
When dangerous goods checks are processed, such as on a sales order, the system identifies applicable dangerous goods regulations from the sales order, shipping point, and ship-to party, as defined in the Apply Regulations Dangerous Goods app.
Next, the system runs checks for compliance-relevant products against their dangerous goods assessments. The transport permissibility of the packaged product is checked against identified regulations.
This is just a brief outline of how checks are processed.
First, select the applicable regulation. The system proposal is filtered by modes of transport, but you can skip this filter to view all active regulations and compliance requirements. Then specify the official languages. You can select from available languages in the compliance requirement.
After you have applied IMDG-Code for the international mode of transport, the Deep Water status for Saudi Arabia changes to Transportis not allowed for domestic modes of transport.
Next, evaluate dangerous goods regulations applicable to domestic modes of transport: road, rail, or inland waterways
After applying a regulation for at least one domestic mode, such as the UN Model Regulations for Road Transport, Saudi Arabia's status changes to Transport, which is allowed for specified modes.
For language output of dangerous goods information on documents, check the settings provided by embedded regulatory content.
According to ADR regulations for road transport in Spain, Spanish is applicable whenever Spain is the departure or destination country.
Additionally, at least one official ADR language - English, French, or German - must be applied. In this example, English is selected.
