Working with Maintenance Plans

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain how to use SAP Fiori apps to work with Maintenance Plans

Working with Maintenance Plans

Find and edit Maintenance Plans

Change Maintenance Plan, and Find Maintenance Items application screens.

Via Web Dynpro apps Change Maintenance Plan and Display Maintenance Plan you can change or display an individual maintenance plan.

For the search of maintenance items and maintenance plans the following UI5 apps are available:

  • Find Maintenance Items
  • Find Maintenance Plans
  • Manage Maintenance Items
  • Manage Maintenance Plans
Manage Maintenance Plans application screen. Three sections on the screen are highlighted. 1. Hyperlink Maintenance Plan 2. White Background of line 3. Hyperlink Create.

With these Fiori Apps maintenance plans and maintenance items can be found, displayed and edited.

Maintenance Plan Scheduling

Mass Schedule Maintenance Plans application screens.

You can use this app to schedule all maintenance plans that are due within a specific time frame. This simplifies the creation of maintenance call objects for maintenance plans, especially if you need to schedule large numbers of maintenance plans.

For each scheduling run, the system checks all maintenance plans and considers parameters such as maintenance strategies and counter readings into account when calculating the due dates. It then generates a maintenance call object, for example a maintenance order, for each due maintenance item.

You can view a list of all maintenance plans already scheduled within a certain time frame and navigate to the job results.

You can generate new maintenance calls and call objects:

  • Choose a job template and enter a job name.

  • Specify the scheduling options (start/end dates; recurrence pattern).

  • Specify the maintenance plan options (time frame for the generation of maintenance calls and call objects, selection criteria, etc.).

Copying Maintenance Plan from Reference Maintenance Plan

You can create a maintenance plan by copying a reference maintenance plan. You can do this in the Create Maintenance Plan applications by entering the maintenance plan number in the Reference maintenance plan section.

By default, you must allow a maintenance plan to be a copy template if you wish to copy it. You can do this while editing (in the Create Maintenance Plan and the Change Maintenance Plan applications (transaction IP02)) with the Allow option under Maintenance planFunctionsCopy Template .

You can also make default settings for the copy options of the maintenance plans in the User Default Values application (transaction EAM_USER) on the Maintenance Plan tab.

If you want to copy any maintenance plan - without using Allow as Copy Template, use the following special customizing setting:Configure Special Functions for Maintenance PlanningEnable Non-template-based Copying.

Assigning Causes and Reasons Documents

You can link a document to a maintenance item which specifies the causes or reasons why a maintenance activity is performed. These documents are assigned to the maintenance items and contain information on, for example, regulations, certifications, and guidance.

You can assign documents by assigning cause codes or reason codes to a maintenance item. You can assign a document to a catalog code and that catalog code can be assigned to a reason or a cause.

To simplify the selection of codes, you can assign code groups to a catalog profile. You can then assign these catalog profiles to the maintenance plan category in customizing or the technical object of the maintenance plan while maintaining master data.

Specifying End Dates and End Counters in Maintenance Plans

With this feature you can specify an end date for scheduling in maintenance plans. For performance-based single cycle plans and strategy plans, you can also define an end counter. The system considers these dates during the scheduling process. When the end date or end counter are due, the last maintenance call retains the status Hold so that no further maintenance call objects are created for this maintenance plan.

Classification of Maintenance Plans

You can classify maintenance plans when creating the maintenance plan or later when changing it. The classification allows you to organize maintenance plans according to various criteria and find them easily. In the Maintenance Plan and Item List you can use the classes and characteristics as selection criteria when you define queries, for example.
