Describing Model Maintenance Dependencies in a Defense Organization

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the maintenance attributes of a Force Element

Model Maintenance Dependencies

The image shows a visualization of key elements in a maintenance management system, including Work center, Maintenance Capabilities, Maintenance Relationships, and an FE (Functional Equivalent) icon. These elements are presented in a structured layout, highlighting their interconnectedness within the overall system.

In SAP's Defense and Security system, three maintenance attributes can currently be maintained. The Work Center, as explained in Lesson 2, the Maintenance Relationships, and the Maintenance Capabilities of a Force Element.

The image shows a visualization of Maintenance Capabilities, which include mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, and software maintenance. The image also depicts two Functional Equivalents (FE A and FE B) that have the capability to perform various maintenance tasks. The Functional Equivalents are connected to the Maintenance Capabilities through arrows, indicating that they possess the required capabilities.

Maintenance capabilities identify which maintenance unit can perform certain maintenance activities.

It is possible to assign one or more maintenance capabilities values to a force element from a pre-configured value list.

The left panel shows predefined Maintenance Capabilities, which you can create individually.

Note

It also gives you the ability to search for a specific skill. For example, you might be looking for maintenance centers that are able to repair a specific engine.

The list of maintenance capabilities can be completely customized to meet the needs of the customers.

The image shows a maintenance management system interface, displaying details of a maintenance flight. It includes information about the maintenance capabilities, such as AIRFRAME - FIXED WING and AIRCRAFT - ENGINES, their valid start and end dates, and their active status. The interface also provides options to search, assign, submit, approve, and delete maintenance capabilities.

Maintenance Capabilities can be created on a customer-specific basis and can then be assigned to the corresponding Force Elements in the Manage Force Elements app. When a maintenance capability is assigned, a time period is defined for the execution of this capability.

The image shows a maintenance management system interface displaying details of a 1st Tank Coy 50002433 asset. It includes information about the maintenance capability Mechanical breakdown associated with the 1st Tank Platoon 50002363, as well as the Maintenance Platoon 50002615 which has the capability to handle all maintenance tasks. The interface also shows three Functional Equivalents (FE A, FE B, and FE C) that are associated with the maintenance of this asset.

In this example, Force Element B corresponds to the 1st Tank Coy. This Force Element has two Maintenance Relationships. The first Maintenance Relationship to the Force Element 1st Tank Platoon has no Default Assignment. This means that only a certain previously defined maintenance capability is covered by this relationship. In this case a mechanical one. The second Maintenance Relationship has a default assignment. This means that all predefined maintenance capabilities are covered.

Technical Objects Management in Defense Maintenance (Part 1)

Protagonist

The Technical Officer is responsible for the maintenance of all Equipment of the Unit incl. the aircrafts. He can be measured by unplanned downtime and readiness status of the assigned aircrafts.

Business Scenario

A new Helicopter was ordered for the 311th Wing and is supplied by the manufacturer. As the Technical Officer, you are responsible to create all necessary maintenance master data for the new CH-47 Chinook. You will create a Maintenance Work Center, assign it to a Force Element, and define the maintenance relationship between Force Elements. To map the CH-47 Chinook in the SAP system, a Functional Location Structure, Master-Equipment and Equipment has to be created and assigned to the Force Element. In addition, Measurement points are prepared for operation. A first notification regarding the tyre pressure must be created and forwarded.

You will learn how to do the following:

  • Display organizational structure
  • Create and Assign a Work Center
  • Update the Maintenance Support relationship
  • Create Functional Location
  • Create a Measuring Point
