Describing Planning of Personal and Functional Equipment

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the definition of authroized materials for persons

Definition of Authorized Materials for Persons

In this lesson, you will learn about:

  • Process View: Definition of Authorized Personal and Functional Equipment
  • Authorized Personal and Functional Equipment
  • Storage Locations for Personal and Functional Equipment
The image shows a process flow chart with four main stages: Planning, Issue, Reporting/Service Activities, and Return. Each stage lists the activities involved, such as defining authorized equipment, issuing equipment to persons, monitoring equipment and personnel, and returning issued equipment. The chart provides a high-level overview of the equipment management process.
The image shows two screens from a defense equipment management system. The left screen displays information about a Combat Kit defined by FMPO, including its FMPO ID, description, and accompanying parts. The right screen shows details of an Assault Rifle 5.56mm, including its product information, default planning, and material details. The text explains that authorized personal and functional equipment is defined by FMPO with models or FMPO with accompanying parts, which are grouped into several FMPOs.

Authorized Personal / Functional Equipment is defined by FMPO with Models or FMPO with accompanying parts (grouping several FMPOs).

The image shows that authorized material can be assigned to a Force Element or a Position. The left side of the image displays a diagram illustrating these two concepts. The right side of the image shows two screenshots from the defense equipment management system. The top screenshot displays a Flexible Material Planning Objects table where the Quantity field is highlighted, indicating that authorized material can be assigned to a Force Element. The bottom screenshot shows a Platoon Leader table where the Name field is highlighted, indicating that authorized material can also be assigned to a Position.

FMPOs can be assigned to a Force Element or a position. Grouped FMPOs assigned to positions are recommended to reduce maintenance and management overhead.

The image explains how the system handles authorized material planning at the Force Element and Position levels. When planned at the Force Element level, the system suggests the quantity per individual. If 60 Combat Vests were planned at the Company level, the screen will propose 60. When planned at the Position level, the system suggests the quantity per individual. If 1 Combat Vest was planned, the screen will propose 1. Position-level planning is also reflected in the Force Element-level report.

The figure explains step 3 of 6 in the assignment of authorized material to a Force Element.

The image shows an overview of the Entitlement definition, which is available on Position Level and Force Element Level, for Personal Equipment and Functional Equipment, and for multiple usage types. The assignments are integrated in the Force Elements structure with a status framework, as shown in the screenshot of the Platoon Leader interface.

This figure provides you with an overview of the Entitlement definition.

The image shows a form for a Handheld Radio, where the user has to select the Material Category and Usage Type from a drop-down menu. The Material Category options include PFE (Functional Equipment), Structural Equipment, and PERS (Personal Equipment). This information is necessary for the assignment of the Handheld Radio.

The default material category is "Structural," when assignment Personal / Functional equipment entitlements the selection should be changed accordingly.

The image shows a report that allows the user to filter authorized quantities for functional equipment, structural equipment, or both. Personal equipment is not considered part of the material readiness assessment. The report also includes subordinate positions authorizations and equipment issued to personnel.

The Authorized / Actual report includes Functional Equipment.

The equipment is still under the accountability of the Force Element and loaned to a person, hence, the quantity does not indicate a shortfall.

The image shows information about the handling of Functional Equipment and Personal Equipment in the organization. Functional Equipment can be issued and returned from any SLOC_S, and is loaned to individuals out of the unit's stock holdings. Personal Equipment is issued out of SLOC_P in most cases, but can also be issued from SLOC_S. A specific configuration is used to designate storage locations for issuing Personal Equipment, such as clothing stores. The SLOC_P is IM Managed, representing the store floor, and is replenished from an IM/EWM backroom warehouse.

Explanations about the abbreviations:

  • SLOC - Storage Location
  • SLOC_S - Stock Storage Location
  • SLOC_P - Provisions Storage Location
The image depicts the handling and storage of Functional Equipment and Personal Equipment. Functional Equipment can be issued and returned from the Armoury (SLOC_S) or Quartermaster Store (SLOC_S). Personal Equipment is issued from the New Recruits Point of Entry (SLOC_P), Clothing Store North (SLOC_P), and Clothing Store South (SLOC_P). The SLOC_S and SLOC_P are used to manage the storage and distribution of these different equipment types.

The armory typically issue rifles, pistols, and so on.

The Quartermasters store typically issue all other functional equipment such as tents, sleeping bags, combat vests, and so on.
