Outlining the Support of Flight Operations Prerequisites

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the prerequisites to use the functionalities of support of flight operations

Functional Overview

Scenario

You are involved in implementing the SAP Defense and Security industry solution. You need to learn how to use the Line Maintenance applications and learn the special features of Line Maintenance Data objects. In detail, these are as follows:

  • Master Equipment and Site Equipment

  • Technical Status, Operational Status, Flight Status

  • Status Board

  • Setup Configuration

  • Pre-flight Inspection, Post-flight Inspection

  • Flight, Flight planning

  • Staff Assignment Board

The image shows a diagram depicting the various components and processes of a SAP ERP system. The diagram includes a Platform structure section showing the functional locations and equipment/TCIs, a Task list section showing maintenance-related tasks, a Config check section showing a graphical configuration, and a Spare parts section showing manufacturer parts. The image also includes an IETM/IETD section at the bottom.

The SAP S/4HANA Asset Management, together with SAP for Defense and Security, provides the backbone of Master Data Management for the Weapon System. Managed entities include the following:

  • Task Lists for the planning and execution of Maintenance
  • Complex platform structures including Functional Location Hierarchies, Equipment Hierarchies (as well as Master Equipment, Site and Critical Equipment)
  • Technical Configuration Management by Master Parts Lists, Spare Parts management by NSN or MPN
  • Document Management for Technical Manuals and Descriptions

Technical Objects Rehearsal

The image shows a diagram explaining the functional location and technical structure of a system. It includes sections for Functional Location, Master Equipment, Site Equipment, and Equipment, each with a corresponding color-coded box. The image also includes two photos depicting military vehicles and a helicopter. A text box provides information about the Master Equipment, stating that it represents the weapon system or platform, is installed at the top level of the structure, and is used for horizontal integration.

To enable the correct management of an independent Weapon System in SAP for Defense and Security, it is represented as Master Equipment, which is installed in the Top-Level Functional Location. Further details are provided in Unit 5 (Describing and Using Plant Maintenance Integration) of this course.

The image depicts a hierarchical structure with a central M element connected to various components such as Force Element, Stock, Accounting, Configuration Control, Status Management, and Line Maintenance Applications. The structure also includes several numbered elements (FL1, FL2, FL3, FL4, FL5, E1, E2, E3, E4) and two images of military vehicles (a ground vehicle and a helicopter).

In the Support for Flight Operations area, an aircraft is mapped as the master equipment. Aircraft also contain components that require tracking, which are mapped as equipment. The master equipment is used in the flight as the reference object. Flight-specific data is automatically transferred. This means that the current data on the aircraft itself, and the components, are also available in the flight at any time.

Master equipment is displayed in the following applications:

  • Status board
  • Various documents such as flights, notifications, and measurement documents display at lower levels
  • Flight plan
  • Controlled usage rate

System Prerequisites for Line Maintenance

The image depicts a process flow diagram with several steps related to platform creation, functional location management, vehicle receipt, equipment changes, and force element management. The steps are connected by green arrows and include actions such as Create a new platform, Create functional location, Receive vehicle, Define object as master equipment, Assign equipment to functional location, Link vehicle to force element, Goods receipt for helicopter, Change equipment, and Assignment of technical objects.

This figure shows the steps for setting up the weapon system (for example a helicopter) in SAP Defense and Security.
