S/4HANA Integration
There are three components required to connect to S/4HANA systems: PLMSI add-on component, a Cloud Connector, and a defined Destination.
The technical component PLMSI offers an integration layer between SAP Integrated Product Development and SAP S/4HANA,SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, or SAP ERP. It allows you to run PLM scenarios across SAP S/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, or SAP ERP and SaaS applications that are part of SAP Integrated Product Development on the SAP Business Technology Platform in a hybrid mode.
It is used to integrate the following SaaS applications of SAP Integrated Product Development with SAP S/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, or SAP ERP : Configuration Management, Enterprise Product Structure, Product Handover, and Specification Management. It is an ABAP add-on and a technical prerequisite. Be sure to check compatibility with specific releases.
The Cloud Connector represents SAP's best practice solution for securely accessing on-premise and private cloud backend systems from the internet in a straightforward manner, serving as an essential component for organizations adopting hybrid cloud strategies.
Destinations serve as predefined endpoints that contain all necessary details for establishing secure communication with external resources. A destination in SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) is a configuration object that defines the connection parameters and technical information required to access a remote service or system from your cloud application.
Collaboration Integration
Collaboration integration scenarios in SAP Integrated Product Development enable enterprise-wide stakeholders to work together on a single, secure platform throughout the product development lifecycle. These scenarios break down organizational silos by connecting internal teams, external partners, suppliers, and customers in collaborative workspaces that maintain digital thread continuity and ensure all parties work with the same up-to-date information. Product Data Integration is a cloud-based API solution that enables seamless integration between third-party authoring systems (such as CAD tools) and SAP Integrated Product Development. It serves as a central hub for managing product data from various engineering disciplines, allowing organizations to upload and download authoring system product data as "Design Items" and derive Enterprise Product Structures from Design Item Structures. For CAD Engineers, Designers, and Product Data Managers, Product Data Integration reduces manual data input through direct collaboration on structured product data and bridges the gap between engineering design tools and enterprise business processes, supporting end-to-end digitalization.
Hybrid Cloud Approach for Specification Management
For customers already managing specifications in SAP Integrated Product Development (IPD) in the private cloud, expanding into the public cloud opens new doors for innovation and efficiency. With native integration for property configuration and phrase management, you can streamline collaborative development with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and co-packers—all within a secure, scalable environment.
By onboarding external partners to SAP IPD in the public cloud, you enable effortless exchange of critical specification data—from raw materials and packaging to sustainability attributes and finished products.
