Managing Dangerous Goods

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to manage Dangerous and Non-Dangerous Goods.

Dangerous Goods Management Process

Dangerous Goods for a Product

Before a product is transported, the Product Steward Specialist assigns compliance purposes to the product, which specify which dangerous goods regulations are relevant.

The Dangerous Goods Specialist is responsible for assessing the product.

If the product is a dangerous good, the specialist classifies it according to the applicable dangerous goods regulations and determine whether the transport of this product is allowed in a certain country/region by the certain mode of transport.

During the classification process, the system generates the dangerous goods description with rules that are specified in each dangerous goods regulation. This description can be printed on documents, such as sales order confirmations and delivery notes.

The following video shows how these users work together to assess a dangerous good.

Applicable Process Steps

To sum up, the general process steps are:

  • Master Data Specialist: Sets the compliance indicator inside a product
  • Product Steward Specialist: Assigns materials and packaged products to an unpackaged product
  • Dangerous Goods Specialist: Classifies (un-) packaged products
  • Dangerous Goods Specialist: Allows / forbids transportation
  • Dangerous Goods Specialist: Sets rules for Dangerous Goods checks in Sales and Delivery

Benefits

The Dangerous Goods for Product chain helps you to:

  • Integrate the dangerous goods assessment of a product with the process of creating and changing products
  • Integrate the dangerous goods assessment of a product with your logistic processes
  • Use compliance requirements out-of-the-box for dangerous goods regulations in different countries or regions for certain modes of transport

Note

This process flow is covered in Scope Item: 3FC- Classify a product as (Non-) Dangerous Goods.

Task 3: Classify Unpackaged Products as Non Dangerous Goods

Otto wants to classify the products as NON dangerous goods.

Task 4: Classify Packaged Products
