SAP Product Development
As your company plans to implement SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition, you want to learn more about the SAP S/4HANA Integrated Product Development solution.
All products go through a series of activities or phases: creation, design, development, production, sales, and maintenance. At the end of each phase, companies must decide whether to continue or abandon the process.
Not every product goes through every phase, but SAP Product Development supports all phases.
Caution
As you learned in the previous lesson, R&D Engineering consists of Product Development, Project Control, and Product Compliance.
However, since in this training we are mainly looking at the scope items of R&D Engineering, we will also use their classification. Therefore, from now on, the term Product Development will be replaced by Product Lifecycle Management. The other terms remain unchanged.
The following video previews three of the most common phases of Product Lifecycle Management.
PLM captures data generated as you transform ideas and concepts into actual products, These insights can then inform decisions as you manufacture, sell, customize, improve, and adapt your products to an ever-changing market.
Note
Because the last of these adaptation affects most products at some point, this unit focuses on two PLM features that support adaptation: Change Management and Variant Configuration, which support employees at a fictitious forklift manufacturer as they perfect their products.
Summary
After completing this lesson, you are able to:
- Give a brief overview of the SAP Product Lifecycle Management.
- Understand the underlying processes.
