Introduce SAP EWM Integration - Batch Management (2VN)
Description
This scope item describes a business process integration between SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition and on-premise SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM). The focus is on the basic integration of batches to the SAP EWM system.
This lesson describes the basic integration of batches to the SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) system. It allows the creation of batches in the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition system. The system automatically replicates the batch information to SAP EWM.
During the creation of a purchase order, the business user can enter the batch number for each purchase order item.
Once a purchase order is available, an inbound delivery is created and replicated to the SAP EWM system. The inbound delivery serves as the starting point for all other process steps in the warehouse.
Business Benefits
Support your high-volume warehouse operations with an integration between SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition and on-premise SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM):
- Manage stock on a storage bin level.
- Work with homogeneous partial quantities of a material or product.
Key Process Flows
For a graphical overview on the business process of the scope item SAP EWM Integration - Batch Management (2VN), refer to the SAP Signavio Process Navigator as described in the lesson The Impact of Warehouse Management.
Key Process Steps:
- Create a batch in the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition system:
Even when most batches are automatically created, it is sometimes necessary to create batches manually. If you create a batch before generating a purchase order, you can directly enter the batch number in the purchase order item.
- Create a purchase order:
Use the Create Purchase Order app to generate a new purchase order (PO) from scratch. By creating a standard purchase order for a finished material in the system, you prepare for creating the inbound delivery and processing it into the warehouse. The purchase order uses the batch created in the previous step.
- Create an inbound delivery:
Typically, the inbound delivery is created when the vendor informs you of the delivery date and conditions. In this case, the system uses the inbound delivery to transfer delivery information to SAP EWM, triggering the generation of EWM documents and follow-up activities. Creating the inbound delivery results in an EWM inbound delivery document being generated in SAP EWM.
- Post goods receipt in SAP EWM system:
This step involves processing the goods receipt in SAP EWM, which acts as the leading system for goods movement in this scenario. The EWM inbound delivery is created, a Handling Unit (HU) is generated, and the inbound delivery items are packed according to packaging specifications. Finally, the actual goods receipt is posted in SAP EWM and transferred back to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
- Check material document after goods receipt (optional):
Alongside stock updates in the warehouse, a financial posting is also made in SAP S/4HANA. The check step displays the material document and its financial posting in SAP S/4HANA.
- Create warehouse tasks for Putaway in SAP EWM:
After posting the goods receipt in SAP EWM, the materials are received in your warehouse. However, they still need to be moved to their final storage bins by creating and confirming warehouse tasks and orders. You can manually create warehouse tasks using the putaway UI for inbound delivery.
- Putaway of products in SAP EWM:
All warehouse tasks can be confirmed and saved in one batch in the background. Alternatively, you can manually confirm individual tasks and save them. This describes the manual confirmation process in the foreground.
- Check inbound delivery (optional):
This step involves verifying inbound deliveries in SAP S/4HANA, which were generated after the goods receipt process in SAP EWM. You review the status of goods movements and the document flow based on EWM postings.
- Display batch in the Batch Information Cockpit:
Use the Batch Information Cockpit app to view batch details quickly and easily.
- Check batch-related physical stock:
After creating a batch in SAP S/4HANA, check whether it was transferred to SAP EWM using the warehouse monitor in SAP EWM.
- Change the batch in the Batch Information Cockpit (optional):
The Batch Information Cockpit allows you to access and modify master data, classification data, and the batch where-used list, providing lifecycle information about the batch.
- Check physical stock - after batch changes (optional):
After making changes to a batch in SAP S/4HANA, verify if the update has been transferred to SAP EWM.
Relevant Business Roles
The following SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition business roles are used for this scenario:

Introduce SAP EWM Integration - Stock Transport Orders (2VL)
Description
Using stock transport orders, you can execute a stock transfer process from one plant to another within the same company code. The process starts with the creation of a stock transport order. A warehouse clerk at the shipping plant monitors the materials due for shipment and creates deliveries as required. Once a delivery is created, the system replicates it to the SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) system, where an outbound delivery order is created. Warehouse tasks are created with reference to the outbound delivery order and the physical process for picking is executed. After the goods issue is posted in the SAP EWM system and sent back to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, an inbound delivery is created and replicated to SAP EWM automatically. This document serves as the starting point for the inbound process in the receiving plant.
The scope item covers three different scenarios:
- Stock transfer between SAP EWM-managed storage locations.
- Stock transferred between inventory management storage locations (not SAP EWM-managed) and SAP EWM-managed storage locations.
- Stock transfer between SAP EWM-managed storage locations and inventory management storage locations (not SAP EWM-managed).
