KPI's

A Key Performance Indicator (KPI) is a measurable value that demonstrates how effectively a company is achieving key business objectives. Organizations use KPIs to evaluate their success at reaching targets.

  1. Navigate Main Menu > Files.

  2. Select the PnL_Admin_NEW### model.

By default, your model is displayed in

Here you can see all the measures in our model - we are going to add some additional calculations.

Note that the Account dimension uses an Account Type attribute to automatically handle positive and negative values.

In SAP Analytics Cloud, you can enter all values as positive numbers, and the switching of signs from positive to negative is handled automatically based on the Account Type setting.

There are four financial account types: Income (INC) and Expense (EXP) items are included in the Profit and Loss account, and Assets (AST) and Liabilities (LEQ) are Balance sheet items. Automatic switching is applied to the account types of INC and LEQ. There is also a NFIN (Non-Financial) option.

  1. Select the Navigate to Dimension icon.

  2. Append a Member to the the data table by clicking the + button under Edit.

  1. Add the details below to the table.

  1. Repeat the data entry process to add account Gross Margin %

  1. In the Formula cell, click the fx buttons to open the Formula Editor.

  1. Enter pl – note that the formula editor presents you with all members starting with pl

  1. Select PL300 (Gross Margin) then type “/” and “pl” – now select PL100 (Total Sales).

You have now created a calculation for this new KPI.

  1. Repeat the same process to add a new KPI called Operating Margin %

You should now have the following additional members in your model.

  1. Save your updated Model by clicking the Save icon.
