Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Differentiate between user groups and project groups.
  • Describe the user groups specific to SAP Ariba Supplier Lifecycle and Performance.
  • Describe how personas are used to assign user groups.

User Groups and Project Groups

Groups control the access that your company’s users have within the SAP Ariba site. There are two types of groups:

  • User groups: User groups control what a user can see and do at site level. They are used to grant users access to functionality in SAP Ariba solutions.

Example: Customer Administrator is a user group that allows a user to access administrative functions.

  • Project groups: Project groups control what a user can see and do at project level. They are used to grant users access to view and/or participate in a particular project.

Example: Project Owner is a project group that allows a user to view and edit the attributes, documents, tasks, and team of their specific project.

SAP Ariba users are added to both user groups and project groups to perform site-level and project-level functions, respectively.

This table provides a brief description of some of the user groups that are relevant to supplier management.

In SAP Ariba Supplier Management solutions, subscriptions include a specific number of licensed users, while team members are not counted as licensed users. Group membership determines whether a user is considered a chargeable user or a team member.

Consult the Strategic sourcing and supplier management group descriptions guide for more information.

Persona-Based User Group Permissions

User groups that SAP Ariba provides are already associated with permissions in your company’s site. Your site administrator assigns user groups to each user, based on the needs of their role.

For example, Joe Ortiz is a category manager. It is Joe’s responsibility to manage legacy supplier qualifications and disqualifications, designate preferred suppliers, and occasionally request new suppliers.

Based on Joe’s needs, the site administrator assigns the Supplier Request Manager, Supplier Qualification Manager, and Preferred Supplier Manager groups to Joe.

Category Manager
  • Request new suppliers
  • Manage legacy supplier qualifications and disqualifications
  • Designate preferred suppliers
