This section provides information about what is new or changed in the SAP Cloud Applications Studio since version 2111 (Nov 2021).
Updated SAP Cloud Applications Studio Installation Process – Effective August 2025
There is a change in the installation and usage of SAP Cloud Applications Studio (Studio) due to Microsoft's deprecation of the technology we currently use. Starting August 2025, the current one-click installer for the Studio will no longer be supported, and a new installation process will be required.
What’s Changing?
Deprecation of Isolated Shell Technology: Microsoft will stop supporting the isolated shell technology after October 2025. This means we will no longer be able to ship the Studio as a bundled package in its current form.
New Installation Process: After August 2025, you will be required to download Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 (Professional or Enterprise edition) to continue using the Studio. Please note that the free Community edition of Visual Studio cannot be used for commercial purposes as per Microsoft’s licensing terms.
Next Steps:
- Download the Professional or Enterprise edition of Visual Studio.
- Download the VSIX Extension from the SAP Software Download Center.
- Close all open instances of Visual Studio 2022. Then, double-click the .vsix file to begin the installation.

SAP Cloud Application Studio (Pilot) Build
Our SAP Cloud Applications Studio has been updated with the latest run-time libraries, offering the same features as before. Transition to SAP Cloud Applications Studio (Pilot) build is recommended as the original version is now deprecated.
Global Data Type (GDT) Fields in ABSL via .ref File
In the Cloud Applications Studio, GDT fields created through key user tools (KUT) are now accessible. When configuring the Customer-Specific Fields file (.ref), the system presents GDT fields alongside other fields. Simply select the desired GDT fields and incorporate them into the .ref configuration for ABSL usage.
Version Management for XBO/BO Files
Developers can now track changes, revert to previous versions , and maintain the integrity and consistency of the software system over time. Users can now track theversion history of XBO/BO files. Previously, the system only supported version history tracking for ABSL/Script files.
Other Enhancements
These are other features added to the latest versions of SAP Cloud Applications Studio:
- A new check is introduced which does not allow you to edit MDRO in active status.
- JSON Parser supports scientific notation values.
