Understanding the Seven Migration and Modernization Assistants

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain the seven migration and modernization assistants announced at SAP Sapphire.

The Seven Assistants at a Glance

At SAP Sapphire 2026, SAP announced seven Migration and Modernization Assistants as part of the agent-led toolchain. All seven run on SAP Cloud ALM as the operational foundation. An "Assistant" means multiple AI skills and multiple agents working together on a specific transformation challenge.

Below is the list of seven assistants:
  • System Analysis Assistant - Scans the customer's existing SAP landscape - data, customizations, custom code - and builds the data foundation for all other assistants.
  • Data Management Assistant - Monitors, corrects, and governs data quality; identifies inconsistencies, performs root cause analysis, and proposes and implements fixes.
  • Custom Code Assistant - Ensures SAP ERP Central Component (ECC) custom code runs in SAP S/4HANA; semantically analyzes extensions, recommends clean core paths, generates technical specifications.
  • Configuration Assistant - Pre-configures SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition using SAP's Enterprise Knowledge Graph, best practice models, and customer requirements.
  • Test Management Assistant - Scopes testing, generates AI test cases from SAP Signavio process models and requirements, and hands off to Tricentis for automated execution.
  • Rollout Assistant - For global template rollouts: compares the SAP template against local market processes and recommends whether to adapt the template or localize.
  • Project Management Assistant - Provides real-time, fact-based project status, delegates tasks by persona, and identifies risks proactively.
The image illustrates the RISE with SAP Methodology, organized into three horizontal layers. At the top is the Standardized framework, which consists of three phases: Discover and onboard (Discover, prepare), Modernize and run (Explore, realize, deploy, run), and Continuously innovate. The middle layer is labeled Expert guidance. The bottom layer is the Agent-led toolchain, which focuses on Business transformation (end-to-end orchestration of value-based business transformation and continuous improvement) and Migration and modernization (fast-track migration, continuous optimization, managing complexity, and reducing costs). Within this toolchain, a Central engagement layer via Joule and orchestration manages seven specific assistants: System Analysis Assistant, Data Management Assistant, Custom Code Assistant, Configuration Assistant, Test Management Assistant, Rollout Assistant, Project Management Assistant.

Coming Soon: Toolchain Alignment Agent

In addition to the seven Migration and Modernization Assistants, SAP is developing agents for the Business Transformation motion. The Toolchain Alignment Agent connects process knowledge (SAP Signavio), enterprise architecture knowledge (SAP LeanIX), and implementation knowledge (SAP Cloud ALM) to proactively surface misalignments and recommend corrective actions.

Currently in production testing with select customers. Planned to be available soon.

Lesson Summary

You should now be able to:

  • Name the seven Migration and Modernization Assistants and describe the transformation challenge each one addresses.
  • Explain that all assistants run on SAP Cloud ALM as an operational foundation, with Tricentis integrated into the Test Management Assistant.
  • Explain the role of the Toolchain Alignment Agent within the Business Transformation Management motion – connecting SAP Signavio, SAP LeanIX, and SAP Cloud ALM to proactively identify misalignments.
