Overview of the Career Worksheet

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explore the Career Worksheet and grant the necessary permissions.

Career Worksheet Features

The Career Worksheet is a planning tool for users as they work on Career Development Planning tasks. It allows users to manage the job roles they're considering and the associated attributes (competencies and skills) to gain an understanding of the development efforts required to move into target roles.

The Career Worksheet for Emily Clark is displayed.

Users can access their Career Worksheet by navigating to Development from the Main Menu . The images below show the different navigation options and actions when accessing the Career Worksheet.

  1. The employee whose Career Worksheet we're viewing. Select a different user for the Career Worksheet using the arrow.
  2. Customizable Career Worksheet instructions, which can be hidden.
  3. View job roles, or see suggested roles based on Manage Suggested Roles.
  4. View future job roles under consideration or current role information.
  5. Role cards including a readiness percentage, role details, and the ability to set the role as the default target role or delete the role.
  6. Add a new role to consider by entering the role name, browsing through all roles, or viewing suggested roles.
  7. The total number of attributes for the highlighted role. This is determined by the attributes linked to the role through Families and Roles.
  8. Each attribute for the role is listed, with gap graphs to show if proficiency in the attribute has been met. Gap graphs are created by comparing the last rating of record recorded for the employee with the expected rating for that role. Listed first are attributes where proficiency has not been met, followed by attributes that have been met. Attribute details are also available with the "i" icon.
  9. Link to launch a role readiness form to evaluate readiness for the highlighted role.
  10. Development goals associated with the attribute, which can be viewed by expanding the attribute details. Add new development goals using the + (plus) icon.
  11. The Career Path for the role (if configured), option to select if the role should be shared in the employee's People Profile, and number of employees currently in the role. Also available for configuration is the number of open roles.

Latest Career Worksheet

Starting with the 1H 2024 release, the Career Worksheet is being redesigned. The new experience starts from Growth Portfolio, where users can preview the information about their current roles and target roles, if any, in the Roles and Aspirations section. Details about the Latest Career Worksheet are available later in this unit.

The landing page of the Latest Career Worksheet is displayed.

The Career Worksheet Template and Permissions

The Career Worksheet Template

Unlike the Development Plan, the Career Worksheet template can only be updated in Provisioning via the XML. To create a new career worksheet or update a previous one, you need the assistance of Customer Success or Professional Services.

As the administrator, you do have the ability to change these options within Admin Center:

  • Set competencies and expected ratings through Families and Roles.
  • Create/Launch a Role-Readiness Form in Performance Management.
  • Manage Suggested Roles in Career Development Planning.

Career Worksheet Permissions

To access the Career Worksheet, an end user must first have the ability to see the Development option from the Home navigation dropdown. The permission that controls this access is called Career Development Plan (CDP) Access Permission as seen below.

The Career Development Planning section in the Add Permissions stage is displayed.

The Career Worksheet has two specific permissions listed. The Career Worksheet Access Permission grants the ability to view or perform activities within the career worksheet.

On the other hand, the Career Worksheet Suggested Roles Access Permission allows the end user to see the Suggested Roles within the Career Worksheet after the proper configurations are set.

The Suggested Roles screen, with nine roles listed, is displayed on the Career Worksheet page.

End User View: Suggested Roles located within HomeDevelopmentCareer Worksheet.

With all the appropriate permissions granted, you can now access the Career Worksheet by selecting Development from the main navigation menu. One important note is that you must have permissions to access the Development Plan in addition to the Career Worksheet to navigate via the menu.

Depending on the configuration of the Career Worksheet template, the look may vary based on activated features. Typical features to include or permission are as follows: Suggested Roles, Role-Readiness Meter, and the Competency Gap Graph.
