Configuring AI Capabilities for Goal Management

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the AI Service Administration capabilities for Goal Management.

AI Services Administration Capabilities for Goal Management

Users can now take advantage of AI to assist them in creating goals and managing goal content more efficiently. There are some prerequisites required to use the Generative AI features in Goal Management:

  • Latest Goal Management enabled
  • SAP AI Units license* (see note below)
  • The following permission needs to be granted in Role-Based Permissions (RBP): Administrator Permissions→Manage AI Capabilities→AI Services Administration.

With these prerequisites, an administrator can navigate to AI Services Administration using Action Search, and turn on the following AI features relevant to Goal Management:

  • Global Features→Assisted Writing: The AI-Assisted Writing tool is an interactive tool that uses Generative AI capabilities to assist employees with their writing tasks. While writing content in the SAP SuccessFactors applications, employees can leverage the features of the AI-Assisted Writing tool to enhance multiple aspects of their writing, such as clarity, conciseness, and tone. The AI Assisted Writing includes the following sub-options that can be also turned on/off:
    • Translation: Allows the written text to be translated into the target language chosen by the user. It supports translation from English US to all 46 languages supported in SAP SuccessFactors and full translation between the following languages: German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese (Simplified), and Japanese.

      Note

More information about language support for Generative AI can be found in this KBA:

3396784 - SuccessFactors Generative AI Multilingual Creation.

    • Text Analyzer: Performs a safety scan to detect bias and suggests replacements for language flagged as biased, discriminatory, or harmful.
  • Talent→Assisted Performance Goals: With this feature, end users can create goals using Generative AI. AI generates content for six standard goal fields (if configured in the goal plan), including Goal Name, Description, Metric, Start and Due Dates, and Milestones, and any custom field of type text and textarea.
This screenshot shows some of the AI Services Administration Feature Settings available in Admin Center, relevant to Goal Management.

Note

*Starting Q3 2026, most generative AI capabilities will start transitioning from Premium to Base AI, significantly expanding the Embedded AI features available to customers at no additional cost. Joule in SAP SuccessFactors

Leveraging its generative AI capabilities, Joule aims to understand your requests, retrieve information, and complete your tasks in a conversational way. For example, instead of manually navigating to a feature or page buried deep, you can describe the current task to Joule, who can help automate tasks or take you to places where you can find desired data. By using Joule, you can easily interact with the system and increase your productivity.

Note

The course 'Exploring Joule and AI Agents in SAP SuccessFactors' includes helpful content on enabling Joule, with links to all the documentation (prerequisites, onboarding, and setup): Enabling Joule and AI Features in SAP SuccessFactors.

Joule in SAP SuccessFactors supports three conversational patterns: transactional, navigational, and informational.

  • Transactional: A transactional capability can help customers create, view, update, or delete business data without having to navigate to the respective apps. In transactional use cases, Joule can not only provide you with general HR information about yourself and your colleagues, but also help you complete tasks directly in the chat interface. For example, when you say "I want to request feedback from my manager," Joule collects your questions and then sends the request directly to your manager.
  • Navigational: A navigational capability helps users find and navigate to the functionality or apps they're looking for without having to go through multiple links to reach a destination. In navigational use cases, Joule can direct you to SAP SuccessFactors pages where you can find the information you need or complete the task. For example, when you want to view your organization's time off instructions, Joule provides a link to the Time Off page and directs you to the location where you can find the information.
  • Informational: In the informational use case, Joule searches available documentation and its own knowledge base to find the answer to your query and provides a summarization as the answer to your question, along with the top three search results. For example, when you want to check your organization's HR policies, you can interact with Joule to retrieve the relevant documents. This saves time for both employees and HR personnel, improving employee self-service experience and increasing HR work efficiency.

    Note

The informational use case in Joule requires additional steps and prerequisites. More information is available here: Set Up Document Grounding.
