Using Initiatives in Goal Management

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to use Initiatives in Goal Management.

Creation and Management of Initiative Groups and Initiatives in Goal Management

You can create departmental, corporate, and division-level initiatives and allow employees to associate their personal goals with the initiatives. A series of Initiatives can be bundled under a common theme called Initiative Group. The initiatives encourage employees to match their Performance Goals to the Organizational Initiatives.

On the Manage Initiatives page, users with permissions can complete the following actions:

  • Create, Edit, and Delete Initiative Groups (which will include Initiatives). The Initiatives need to be assigned to an Initiative Group as a requirement.
  • Search for Initiative Groups by name or based on the Goal Plan(s) to which these Initiative Groups are associated.
  • Add Initiatives (Name and Description) into each group.
  • Assign Initiative Groups to a Dynamic membership (based on Job Code, Department, Division, or other criteria). Up to 3 People Pools, including one or more categories, can be utilized to determine membership.
  • Align With Goal Plan. This is also a mandatory step in the assignment of Initiative Groups. Multiple Goal Plan templates can be aligned to each Initiative Group.
  • Share/Revoke co-ownership of Initiative Groups to another user (so they can also assign initiative groups to a different Dynamic membership and Align them to the Goal Plan templates of their choice).
This screenshot shows the Manage Initiatives page in Admin Center.

End users with Initiative Groups assigned to them and aligned to their Goal Plan can select Initiatives directly when creating or editing a goal from the Edit Performance Goal screen.

Caution

Initiatives have the following limitations to be considered:
  • You can't associate goals from goal libraries with initiatives upon creation. However, you can edit the goals to associate them with initiatives later.
  • You can’t assign initiatives to more than 15,000 users in a single transaction.
  • Initiatives can't be imported. However, initiative groups can be imported via Import and Export Data.
  • Initiatives can't be localized using 3-Tier Language Architecture.
  • Initiatives aren’t integrated with Performance Management.
This screenshot shows where a user can associate initiatives to a performance goal.

Once the goal is saved with the initiatives associated, the Goal Details will show a Linked Initiatives section.
