Explaining Onboarding and Onboarding 1.0 Co-Existance

SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding and Onboarding 1.0 Co-Existence

SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding and the older Onboarding 1.0 can be implemented or enabled on one SAP SuccessFactors instance.

With SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting Management enabled, Onboarding, and Onboarding 1.0 can be initiated separately depending on specific criteria of the new hires. This is configured using the individual Onboarding and Onboarding 1.0 integration setup tools.

For example, Onboarding 1.0 can be initiated for all new hires in the U.S., and Onboarding will be initiated for all other countries or locations.

Note

While a hybrid setup will work well, please note the plan to deprecate Onboarding 1.0 with the 1H 2026 release. We continue to build on the differences between the two versions of SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding, focusing on the enhancements of the new version with more capabilities apart from building on what Onboarding 1.0 has that can be recreated. Recruit-to-Hire Data Mapping

Recruit-to-Hire Data Mapping is an MDF-based mapping tool for SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting to Onboarding integration. To pass the new hire data from Recruiting Management to Onboarding, you must map the mandatory Employee Central Data entity fields with the corresponding fields in Recruiting Management.
You are essentially mapping HRIS fields from SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central (EC), as these are the same fields we use in Onboarding to build a new hire's profile.

Note

To set up Recruit-to-Hire Data Mapping, Onboarding, Recruiting, and Employee Central must be enabled in Provisioning.

As a customer, you don't have access to Provisioning. To complete tasks in Provisioning, contact your implementation consultant. If you're no longer working with an implementation consultant, contact Product Support.

Onboarding and Onboarding 1.0 Integration Setup

Onboarding Integration Setup

If you also use SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting, you can initiate onboarding for candidates through Onboarding or Onboarding 1.0 if both are configured in the same instance. These conditions determine which Onboarding process is to be initiated for a candidate.

Access Onboarding Integration Setup from Admin Center.
The primary setting to initiate onboarding is to identify the job requisitions on which it will be applied.
The mapping of fields is done using a different tool, as shown in the figure below.
