Accessing the WFA Portal

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to navigate the Workforce Analytics (WFA) portal.

WFA Navigation

The following sections appear in the Workforce Analytics (WFA) portal to help you navigate:

  • Metrics Menu: Menu containing links to available measures. Click on the Metrics option to display measure catalog.
  • Filters: Apply time, structural, and/ or analysis dimensions to customize your report output further. Click on a Filter option to change the selection in the current report page.
  • Tools: List of the tools available for your role.
  • Export: Send the display to Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF, or PowerPoint.
  • Admin: Access administrative features available to your role.
  • Resources: Catalog of customer-managed support documents.

Input and Result Measures

An input measure is information sourced or calculated from the raw data extracted from Human Resource Information System (HRIS) to convert into human capital metrics.

The following are examples of input measures:

  • End-of-Period Headcount
  • FTE
  • Average Headcount
  • Terminations
  • Hires
  • Performance Appraisal Participants

A result measure is a new piece of information calculated by combining multiple input measures. This represents derived information not present within the original HRIS extract.

The following are examples of result measures:

  • Average Workforce Age
  • Staffing Rate
  • Average Workforce Tenure
  • Termination Rate
  • Net Hire Ratio
  • Average Performance Appraisal Rating
This screenshot shows an example of result measures calculated in Workforce Analytics.

Standard Reports / Measure Pages

All Measure Pages contain the following features:

  • Title of the measure
  • Description of the measure
  • Measure Explanation & Footnote text
  • Details of analyses (if any) applied

You can use the Analysis View drop-down menu on each measure page to see the other measure page views available.

This screenshot shows a results measure page and its key features in Workforce Analytics.

Filters by Dimensions

Time Dimensions

Using filters, you can select a time range by either calendar year or fiscal year.

This screenshot shows the Time Dimensions options in Workforce Analytics.

Structural Dimensions

Structural dimensions allow analysis by organizational, regional, reporting, or line of business structures.

Selecting Report By allows you to choose a structural dimension to "slice" the data. Selecting Limit By allows you to choose a structural dimension to filter the data.

Analysis Dimensions

Analysis dimensions allow analysis by groups that logically segment the measure. For example, workforce measures such as termination rate may be analyzed by gender or job role. Selecting Analyze By allows you to choose an analysis dimension to "slice" the data. Selecting Filter By allows you to choose analysis dimensions to filter the data.

This screenshot shows the Analysis Dimensions options in Workforce Analytics.

Benchmark Gauge

The user selects a benchmark to compare their organization’s results. The black needle represents the organization’s score for that measure.

  • Results within the Green zone are within the desired range for that measure.
  • Results within the Yellow zone are close to the target for that measure.
  • Results within the Red zone are far from the desired range for that measure.

You may select Explain to display an explanation of the measure currently being viewed. Selecting Footnotes displays any footnotes available for the currently selected measure. Footnotes are specific to an organization and can be added by users in certain roles to provide more detail/ context on the measure for other users within their organization.

Note

Not all regions and not all metrics have benchmarks
This screenshot shows an example of a Benchmark for Termination Rate.

Result and Input Views

You can use the Analysis View drop-down menu on each measure page to see the other measure pages available.

Result measure views include:

  • Analysis View
  • Input View
  • Benchmark View
  • Table View
  • Trend View

Input measure views include:

  • Analysis View
  • Table View
  • Pie Chart View
  • Trend View

Result Measure Views

Result Analysis View

In addition to the common features of all measure views, the Analysis View for result measures contains:

  • A trended graphical representation of the measure for the whole organization for a selected period.
  • A visual representation of the organization’s result compared to the selected benchmark (if available) and the desired ranges for that measure.
  • A table comparison of each structural dimension unit by each analysis dimension unit for the measure for the selected period.
This screenshot shows an example of a Result Analysis View.

Result Benchmark View

The Benchmark View for result measures contains:

  • A benchmark line chart representation of the measure by benchmark groups available in the selected benchmark category for the specified period.
  • A benchmark analysis describing the selected benchmark.
  • A stacked benchmark chart showing the organization's results for the selected period against the benchmark ranges.
  • A table comparison of the measure by the selected analysis option compared to the benchmark category selected.
This screenshot shows an example of a Result Benchmark View.

Result Input Views

The Input View for result measures contains:

  • A trended graphical representation of the measure for the whole organization for a selected period.
  • The formula for calculating the result measure.
  • A table comparison of each of the measure inputs for the selected period.
This screenshot shows an example of a Result Input View.

Result Table View

The Table View for result measures contains:

  • A table representation of the measure by the selected analysis option for the specified period.
  • A table representation of the measure by the selected analysis dimension for the selected structural dimension.
This screenshot shows an example of a Result Table View.

Result Trend View

The Trend View for result measures contains:

  • A trended graphical representation of the measure for the selected period, including the average over time.
  • A trended table representation of the measure by the selected structural dimension for the selected period.
This screenshot shows an example of a Result Trend View.

Input Measure Views

Input Analysis View

The Analysis View for input measures contains:

  • A graphical representation of the measure broken down by the selected analysis dimension for the selected period.
  • A graphical representation of the percentage of that measure sliced by the analysis dimension for the selected period.
  • A table representation of the measure broken down by the selected structural dimension and sliced by the selected analysis dimension.
This screenshot shows an example of an Input Analysis View.

Input Table View

The Table View for input measures contains:

  • A table representation of the measure by the selected period and the selected analysis dimension.
