Setting Up SAP SuccessFactors Continuous Performance Management

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to set up SAP SuccessFactors Continuous Performance Management.

SAP SuccessFactors Continuous Performance Management

SAP SuccessFactors Continuous Performance Management (CPM) helps employees and managers have meaningful and structured discussions throughout the performance cycle. CPM connects those discussions to the SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite, allowing employees to capture activities and achievements in real-time.

CPM Terminology

TermDefinition
ActivitiesActivities records the efforts of employees and provides visibility into the activities employees are working on throughout the year. Activities can be prioritized and linked to performance or development goals. Employees can request feedback on activities.
AchievementsAchievements records the accomplishments of employees throughout the year. Achievements are dated and are generally triggered when an activity is completed.
Discussion TopicsDiscussion Topics cover other agenda items that an employee or manager would like to discuss or track throughout the year that are not directly related to activities or achievements.
MeetingsEmployees and managers can take a snapshot of current activities and topics during 1:1 meetings that occur throughout the year. Snapshots are visible in the Activities view, sorted by date of meeting. All information captured in meeting snapshots is saved in a read-only format and cannot be deleted.

Prerequisites and Activation

CPM Prerequisites in the back end (Provisioning)

SAP SuccessFactors Goal Management and SAP SuccessFactors Performance Management modules must be licensed and configured to enable the CPM functionality. In addition, Platform features such as Role-Based Permissions, Generic Objects, and Attachment Manager must be enabled.

CPM Activation from Admin Center

Once the above prerequisites have been verified by an implementation consultant or someone with access to the back end of the application, CPM can be activated from the Admin Center. Navigate to Performance Management Feature Settings using Action Search. Select the Enable Continuous Performance Management option and choose Save.

This screenshot displays the checkbox in Performance Management Feature Settings used to enable Continuous Performance Management (CPM).

Once enabled, the MDF objects required to support CPM functionality are automatically imported from SuccessStore.

Continuous Feedback

Continuous Feedback represents a comprehensive set of capabilities to give and request feedback that can be viewed and managed within CPM. This includes the following abilities:

  • Request feedback on activities.
  • Request or give feedback not necessarily related to activities.
  • Link received feedback to activities.
  • View and manage feedback received, feedback given, and requests sent.

Administrators can control who can give feedback and who can request feedback. Continuous Feedback can be turned on independent of CPM core capabilities (activities, achievements, and discussion topics).

Employees can be more aware of their strengths and weaknesses by reaching out to others to get feedback or by receiving unsolicited feedback from others.

The main switch to enable Continuous Feedback as well as the sub options available, are highlighted.

Enablement of Role-Based Permission for Employees and Managers

Navigate to Manage Permission Roles using Action Search.

The permissions enabled for Continuous Performance Management apply to the employee and manager roles. Navigate to the appropriate role (employee or manager) and, under User Permission, select Continuous Performance Management User Permission and Select All.

  • Access Continuous Performance Data allows individuals access to CPM data.

    Note

The Access Continuous Performance Data permission is bound by target population. For employees and managers to interact smoothly, ensure that the Target Population for employees include Self, and the Target Population for managers include Direct Reports and Self.
  • Access Continuous Feedback Data allows individuals to view the feedback they receive and the feedback received by their direct reports within the role’s target population.
  • Give Continuous Feedback allows users to give feedback to users within the role’s target population.
  • Request Feedback from others allows users to send requests for feedback to employees within the role’s target population.
  • Limit about whom feedback can be requested works in conjunction with the Request Feedback from others permission and allows the ability to restrict feedback requests within the role’s target population.
  • Access Continuous Performance Page allows users to access the Continuous Performance page.
  • Access Continuous Feedback Page allows users to access the Continuous Feedback page.
  • Edit Discussion Topics and Meeting Notes in Meeting History. If enabled, users can make further edits to this information once the meetings have been finalized and stored in the history.
