Associating Talent Pools with Roles

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to associate Talent Pools with roles.

Associate Talent Pools and Roles with JPB

Associating Talent Pools with Roles makes those Pools available as a source for nominating successors to positions that are based on those roles. The following points offer additional information about associating Talent Pools to positions:

  • Users are added to a Talent Pool, where they can have an associated Readiness rating and Notes for the nomination.
  • For a Talent Pool to be used for Succession Planning, it must be associated to a Job Role.
  • Incumbents and Positions are also associated to Job Roles, via the Job Code attribute (users) or via the Job Classification object (positions).
  • Once you have a Job Role that has positions and a Talent Pool associated to it, we consider that the Talent Pool is acting as a group of successors to those associated positions. And then, the Talent Pool starts appearing in the Succession Org Chart as the group of successors to that position.
The diagram presents associating Talent Pools to Positions.

The procedure for associating Pools with Roles is slightly different depending on if you’re using Job Description Manager (JDM-legacy Families and Roles) or Job Profile Builder (JPB).

Talent Pools associated with a role display in the position card when accessed from the Succession Org Chart or Position Tile view.

With JPB, you can map multiple Talent Pools to a role. To map Talent Pools to a role using JPB:

  1. Navigate to Manage Job Profile Content.
  2. Select Set up Families and Roles.
  3. To view all roles, select a family to view the roles or navigate to the Roles tab directly.
  4. Select a role and go to the Mapped Talent Pools tab.
  5. Choose Map Talent Pools to associate available Talent Pools.
  6. The associated Talent Pool uses the Succession mapped job code if available, otherwise it uses the Default mapping.
Go to the Mapped Talent Pools tab and choose Map Talent Pools to associate available Talent Pools.

Associate Talent Pools and Roles with JDM

With JDM, you can map one Talent Pool to each role. To map Talent Pools to a role using JDM:

  1. Navigate to Families and Roles.
  2. Choose a Family and then the Role.
  3. On the role details, choose Edit Properties.
  4. Select a Talent Pool from the list to map it to the role.
  5. Choose Save and Close.
The Edit: Sales Manager dialog box is displayed.
