Configuring Talent Cards

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe and configure Talent Cards.

Talent Card Overview

A Talent Card is a concise profile of an employee and their talent-related attributes. It provides a subset of Employee Profile information, designed to display strategic talent information about an employee.

Talent Cards offer the following benefits:

  • Key employee data side-by-side comparison
  • Synchronized scrolling for multiple Talent Cards
  • Respect Role-Based Permissions to view/edit employee information
  • Three configurable templates for Succession, Calibration, and Presentations
  • Support of many standard and custom portlets
The Talent Cards are displayed.

There are three types of Talent Cards: Presentations, Succession, and Calibration. Each of these areas can have a different Talent Card configuration (different sections, different fields). For example, there may be certain background elements you want to use for succession planning or calibration sessions that you don't need for your executive reviews in presentations.

Succession Talent Card

The Talent Card you configure for Succession is used in:

  • Succession Org Chart (v12 and higher)
  • Position Tile View
  • Lineage Chart
  • MDF Talent Pools
  • Matrix Grid reports (v12 and higher)

Presentation Talent Card

The Talent Card you configure for Presentations is used on some live slides and can be linked to hotspots on static slides.

Calibration Talent Card

The Talent Card used in Calibration sessions.

Employee data shown on the Talent Cards is subject to system permissions. The Talent Cards only display employee data that the logged-in user has permission to view and/or edit. When used in a presentation, presenters should ensure that members of the audience are also allowed to view this information.

Talent Card Permissions

The first step in configuring Talent Cards is to grant the necessary Role-based Permissions. Typically, administrators are granted access to managing Talent Cards.

To configure Manage Talent Card permissions:

  1. To navigate to Manage Permission Roles, use Action Search.
  2. Select the role for which you’re editing permissions.
  3. Choose Edit and change the basic information if necessary.
  4. Choose Next and navigate to the Administrator Permissions section.
  5. Select Manage Talent Card.
  6. Grant Manage Talent Card Configuration permission to the selected role.
  7. Choose Next, review the role’s permissions, and choose Save.

Add Employee Data Role-based Permissions.

Note

Don’t forget to log out and log back in for the new RBP to take effect.

Content Design for Talent Cards

Permissioned users can design Talent Card content for Presentations. While the vertical layout is standard and cannot be altered, users have the option to choose content from a wide range of sources to configure the Talent Cards.

Note

For any instance, there's only one configuration and layout for each of the three types of Talent Card.

For example, when you design the Presentations Talent Card, all presentations created in that instance use the same Talent Card design.

To edit the content on the Talent Cards:

  1. To navigate to Manage Talent Card, use Action Search.
  2. Select which Talent Card you wish to edit: Presentations, Succession, or Calibration.
  3. Once the Talent Card is open, you can choose a section that has already been added to edit that section (mouse over the section), or you can choose +Add a Section to add a new section.

Note

The example Talent Card does display the background sections you add, but it doesn't reflect any field-level configurations. Each section shows a static image and doesn't change.
The Talent Cards are displayed.

The following functionalities are available with the Talent Cards:

  1. Hover over the Overview section and select Edit to change the employee information that shows in that section.
    1. Enable the fields that you want to see displayed in the Overview.
    2. The Department field can be overridden and can use any other basic user information field defined by the organization. The available fields are drawn from the standard elements defined in People Profile.
    3. Enable In Position if you want to display the number of years the employee has been in their current position, based on the Hire Date in Employee Central.
    4. Select if you’d like the label to show if you’ve enabled the Department or In Position fields.
The Talent Card Overview Section is displayed.
  2. Select the arrow to view the extended employee data and choose Edit Extended Information to make changes.
    1. Enable the fields that you want to see displayed in the extended information section.
    2. Select Show Label to display the field name label.
    3. Predefined fields (Job Level, Function, Country/Region Name) can be overridden by any existing standard element or userinfo elements defined in People Profile.
The Talent Card Extended Information Section is displayed.
  3. Hover over the section that you wish to edit, and select either Edit, Delete, Move Up, or Move Down.
    1. After choosing Edit, the section screen opens so you can make your changes.
    2. Choose Move Up or Move Down to move that section within the Talent Card. The location of the section controls which options are available.
    Edit a Talent Card Section.
  4. Select +Add a Section to add a new background element or predefined portlet to the Talent Card. The predefined background sections represent the most commonly used background information. When you create a custom section, you can select from any of the background elements defined for your company.
    1. Select from a predefined section or create a custom section.
    2. Choose Next to add fields to the new section or Cancel to return to the main Talent Card screen.
    3. Configure the section by choosing the elements in the order that you’d like to see them displayed. Each predefined section has different elements to choose from. If multiple field options are available, you can enable just a portion of the fields – you don’t have to display all fields.
    4. Once the changes have been made, choose Save, Save and Add Another, or Back to return to the previous page.
Add a New Section to the Talent Card.
  5. Once the changes have been made, choose Save or Cancel the changes.

Note

For the Performance & Potential and Competency & Objective predefined sections, the mini matrix grid is generated based on the dates and rating scales defined in the Employee Profile (Configure People ProfileGeneral SettingsTalent Data Settings). If your matrix grid settings are not in line with the Employee Profile settings, the results may look different in the talent card than in the full matrix grid report.

Nominations Section of the Talent Card

Users with the correct permissions can view any nominee’s succession information in the Nominations section of a Talent Card.

The incumbent name is also visible under the position. There is a restriction when there are multiple incumbents for one position, the incumbent names do not yet show in that case.

Moreover, it is also possible to add, edit, or remove nominations from this nomination portlet (including Talent Pool nominations) from the three available Talent Cards (Succession, Calibration, and Presentations).

The Nomination History can also be viewed by selecting View Nomination History ().

The Talent Card is displayed with Nominations.

Note

The visibility of the Nomination section in the Talent Card and People Profile depends on the VIEW permission of the Nomination Portlet in RBP. Any permission changes to the Nomination Portlet affects both the Talent Card and People Profile.
