Describing key SAP SuccessFactors Succession Management 2H 2025 Features and Enhancements

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the new features and enhancements of SAP SuccessFactors Succession Management

Show Person-Based Nominations on Talent Card and People Profile

The Succession talent card and both the legacy and latest People Profile now show an employee's nominations from all their employments, including nominations to positions (or incumbents) and talent pool nominations.

When you've selected the admin setting Show person-based nominations for employees with global assignments or concurrent employments users with proper permissions can view all nomination records of an employee.

For example, Carla Grant has two employments: one as an Administrative Assistant and the other as a Human Resources Analyst. As shown in the following screenshots, when the person-based view is not enabled, only nominations in the selected employment, Administrative Assistant, are displayed on her Succession talent card and People Profile. When the feature is enabled, both employments' nominations are displayed.

Before enabling the feature, the “Nominations” and “Talent Pool Nominations” sections on the Succession talent card only display information for one of Carla Grant's employments. After enabling the feature, the talent card displays information for all of Carla Grant's employments.
Before enabling the feature, the “Nominations” and “Talent Pool Nominations” cards on People Profile only display information for one of Carla Grant's employments. After enabling the feature, the cards display information for all of Carla Grant's employments.

Note

Using OData APIs to query person-based nomination records is not supported.

This enhancement provides a comprehensive view of nomination information for employees with multiple employments.

Configuration Requirements

  • Global Assignment or Concurrent Employment is enabled.
  • The setting Show person-based nominations for employees with global assignments or concurrent employments is selected in Admin CenterNominations Setup.

Filter Position Tile View with Foundation Objects

Users can now add Foundation Objects as filters to narrow down the positions displayed in the Position Tile view.

If you've configured a setting to include Foundation Objects in filters and have added Foundation Object fields as searchable fields to the Position object, those Foundation Objects will show up as available filters in the Position Tile view.

Regardless of which fields of a Foundation Object you make searchable, the Position Tile View displays the Foundation Object itself as a filter. For example, whether you add location.name orlocation.externalCode, users see the Location filter. If you add both location.name and location.externalCode, only one Location filter is displayed.

This enhancement enables users to filter position tiles with more pre-configured options, providing a more consistent experience in searching for positions.

Configuration Requirements

  • The setting Include Generic Objects and Foundation Objects in filters in the Position Tile view is selected in Admin CenterSuccession Settings.
  • This setting was previously used to include Generic Objects only and is now expanded to cover Foundation Objects as well. If you've already enabled this setting, Foundation Object-type filters are automatically available in the Position Tile view.

What's Changed

In the current version, Foundation Objects can be used to filter position tiles. In the following screenshot, the user adds three Foundation Object-type filters: Pay Grade, Zone, and Location. When they choose the Location filter, the dialog for selecting locations pops up.

Foundation Object-type filters available in the Position Tile view

In the previous version, Foundation Object-type filters were not supported in the Position Tile view.

Enhanced Suggested Successors Feature

The Suggested Successors feature now supports using the skills and competency proficiency levels from Growth Portfolio. Additionally, users can now view a role readiness explanation for each suggested successor.

Here are the details:

  • If you've migrated to Talent Intelligence Hub and enabled Growth Portfolio, the Suggested Successors feature uses skill and competency ratings from Growth Portfolio to calculate role readiness, aligning with the calculation method in Career Worksheet. Previously, the ratings used came from completed Performance Management and 360 Reviews forms.

  • When users hover over the role readiness of a suggested successor, they can select the information icon to view the explanation in a popover dialog. This dialog categorizes all attributes required by the position's role into two groups - matched and unmatched - based on whether the suggested successor's current ratings meet the expected ratings of these attributes.

Here's a screenshot of a role readiness explanation:

Role readiness explanation for a suggested successor
  • In the suggested successors list, we changed the column header from "Readiness" to "Role Readiness" to avoid confusion with successor readiness. We also added the "Role Readiness" label in the successor nomination dialog.

The enhancement of supporting Growth Portfolio ratings is from customer idea 340291. It provides Growth Portfolio users with more relevant results and increases consistency across the Career and Talent Development product. The role readiness explanation enables users to learn more about the strengths and weaknesses of each suggested successor, helping them make better-informed decisions in successor nomination.

Configuration Requirements

You've enabled the Suggested Successors feature.

Separate Permission Control for Viewing Nomination History

You can now use role-based permissions to control whether users who can nominate successors or view talent pool nominees are allowed to access the history of successor or talent pool nominations.

Under User PermissionsSuccession Planners, we separated the permission to view nomination history from the Succession Planning Permission and View Talent Pool Nominations permissions and added the following as child permissions:

  • View Nomination History: Allows users who can nominate successors to also be able to view the nomination history on the position card, Succession talent card, and in the People Profile. Its target population is the same as that defined for Succession Planning Permission.
  • View Talent Pool Nomination History: Allows users who can view talent pool nominees to also be able to view the nomination history in the talent pool details page and the People Profile. Its target population is the same as that defined for View Talent Pool Nominations.

These permissions are also required for using the Nominee History OData v2 API to query nomination history data.

Here's a screenshot of the new permissions and the parent-child relationships:

New permissions View Nomination History and View Talent Pool Nomination History in the Manage Permission Roles admin tool

With the 2H 2025 release, if a user already has the parent permission Succession Planning Permission or View Talent Pool Nominations, they are automatically granted the corresponding nomination history permission.

These enhancements enable more granular and secure access control over nomination history data, allowing you to tailor permissions more precisely to protect sensitive information.

Sort Succession Org Chart by Position or Employee Title

Same-level nodes in the Succession Org Chart can be sorted alphabetically by position title or employee title, instead of by the incumbent's username.

This feature is available when the admin setting Sort Succession Org Chart by position title or Sort Succession Org Chart by employee title is selected, depending on the nomination method you're using. By default, this option is not selected, and sorting is based on usernames.

The following screenshots show the default sorting and the new sorting, respectively.

Succession Org Chart nodes are sorted by the incumbent's username.
Succession Org Chart nodes are sorted by position title.

The title-based sorting helps users in comparing and managing succession plans for similar positions or roles. This feature also ensures a more stable view of the Succession Org Chart, as the display order remains the same when incumbents change.

Configuration Requirements

  • (For the MDF or legacy position-based nomination method) Sort Succession Org Chart by position title is selected in Admin CenterOrg Chart ConfigurationSuccession org chart.
  • (For the role-person nomination method) Sort Succession Org Chart by employee title is selected in Admin CenterOrg Chart ConfigurationSuccession org chart.

Role-Based Permission Prerequisites

To enable this feature, you must have the Administrator PermissionsManage System PropertiesOrg Chart Configuration permission.

Access Inactive Employees in Talent Pools Based On Target Population

Users can now view and manage inactive talent pool nominees who are in the target population of their permissions.

The existing admin setting Apply target population to talent pool nominations permissions only allows users to access active employees in their target population. To cover inactive employees, we introduced a new setting called Include inactive users in target population of talent pool nominations permissions as a child setting under the existing one. When the existing setting is enabled, you can further enable the new setting so that users can access talent pool nominations for both active and inactive employees in their target population.

Specifically, when you enable the new setting, inactive employees in the target population appear in the following places:

  • Talent pools
  • Talent pool sections on the position card
  • The Talent Pool Nominations section on the talent card
  • The Talent Pool Nominations card in the latest People Profile, or the Current Nominations block in the legacy People Profile
  • Talent search results for talent pools

This enhancement makes it possible to show inactive employees in talent pools while applying target population. Previously, you could only choose between displaying all inactive employees or none at all.

Configuration Requirements

You've selected the Include inactive users in target population of talent pool nominations permissions option under Admin CenterNominations Setup.

Role-based Permission Prerequisites

You have the Administrator PermissionsManage SuccessionSuccession Management permission.

AI-Assisted Successor Recommendation

AI-Assisted Successor Insights

Leveraging generative AI capabilities, succession planners can now gain insights into the successors who are recommended based on their skills, competencies, and work experience.

When you've enabled the Suggested Successors feature, you can further enable the AI-Assisted Successor Recommendation feature and configure the criteria and weights used in the recommendation. The default configuration assigns weights of 50% to "skills and competencies" and 50% to "work experience", as shown in the following screenshot:

Administrators can choose whether to include skills and competencies and work experience in the recommendation and adjust the weight of each criteria.

If you choose to include both "skills and competencies" and "work experience", generative AI uses the following data to recommend successors:

  • Position-related job families, job roles, and job profiles in Job Profile Builder
  • Skills and competencies in the Growth Portfolio
  • Job information and external work experience in People Profile

In the Succession Org Chart or the Position Tile view, users can access the feature when they open a position card and select the Add Successor button. The feature is located under the area for manually searching for candidates. By selecting the Generate button, users can view up to 10 employees suggested with the help of AI, where the more suitable candidates appear higher on the list.

Note

The generation process takes some time. Users can close the position card and do other tasks if they want. Once the results are ready, users get a notification in the global page header. They can select the notification entry to go directly to the recommendations on the position card.

In the suggested successors list, users can hover over an employee and use the Add button to nominate them as a successor. Once the employee is nominated, they are removed from the list. Users can also choose the information icon to view why the employee is suggested in a popover dialog. The dialog contains up to four sections:

SectionDescriptionPrerequisites
Matched Skills and Competencies

Display all the skills and competencies required for the position, categorizing them into two groups—matched and unmatched—based on whether the employee's current ratings meet the expected ratings.

Specifically, in Job Profile Builder, the position is mapped to a job role, and the job role is mapped to specific skills and competencies. Each skill or competency can have an expected rating for the role. When the employee's current rating for a skill or competency in the Growth Portfolio meets the role's expected rating, this attribute is considered "matched" with the position. Otherwise, it's considered "unmatched".

Available when the weight of "skills and competencies" is greater than 0%, and there's at least one skill or competency mapped to the role of the position.
Unmatched Skills and Competencies
Additional Relevant SkillsDisplays the employee's other skills in the Growth Portfolio that are related to the skills required by the position.Available when the weight of "skills and competencies" is greater than 0%, and the employee has at least one additional relevant skill.
Matched Work ExperienceDisplays the employee's work experience that matches the position's requirements, including:
  • Certain years of overall work experience
  • Certain years of experience with a particular skill
  • Certain years of experience in a particular job family

The requirements come from the job profile for the position role. Users can view the information by selecting (View Available Actions) in the position card header and then choosing

View Role Details.

The employee's experience data comes from their People Profile and Growth Portfolio.

Available when the weight of "work experience" is greater than 0%, and the employee has at least one matched work experience.

The more matched or related attributes an employee has, the more suitable they are regarded for the position.

The AI-generated content is stored on the position card for three days, after which it expires and becomes invisible. Users can regenerate the content at any time.

Here's a screenshot of this feature:

On the position card, users select the Generate button under the area for manually searching for candidates. When the suggested successors list is available, users choose the information icon for an employee to view why they are recommended.

Compared with the Suggested Successors feature, the new feature incorporates more role-related data sources in generating recommendations, providing more relevant results to help improve the effectiveness of succession planning.

Configuration Requirements

  • You're using the MDF or legacy position-based nomination method.
  • You've migrated to Talent Intelligence Hub and enabled the Growth Portfolio.

Admin Tool Matrix Grid Rating Scales Universally Available

The Matrix Grid Rating Scales admin tool is now available in all systems. Previously, it was available only when the Matrix Grid Reports feature is enabled in Provisioning.

We removed this prerequisite because this tool can be used not only for the Matrix Grid Reports in Succession, but also for the matrix grids on the Performance Management form and those in the Trend Information and Overview blocks in the legacy People Profile. Customers who are not using Matrix Grid Reports no longer need to have it enabled to access the tool.
