Using Regulatory Content in SAP S/4HANA

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain how to use the regulatory content in SAP S/4HANA.

Regulatory Content

In this lesson, you’ll discover more information about the regulatory content and view an example of how to use it in SAP S/4HANA for product compliance.

Apps to manage compliance requirements, compliance purposes, and listed substances.

Product compliance processing is based on the availability of compliance requirements and an inventory of related listed substances. These two central pillars are provided with the regulatory content, forming an inherent part of the system.

Supplementing these pillars, there are:

  • Data structures to enter the required primary data;
  • Logic to calculate secondary data as one result layer;
  • Logic to process compliance data, integrated with supply chain processes, such as sales or outbound delivery processing;
  • Templates to provide the layout and data formatting to generate documents.

Regulatory content, including phrases, graphics, listed substances and some compliance requirement versions, is automatically updated with the latest release and set-up of the regulatory content service, but compliance requirements are not automatically activated. This task is carried out by the product stewardship specialists.

Before the activation, analytics functions enable product stewardship specialists to estimate the impact and consequences of a newly received update.

With the update and enhancement of the integrated regulatory content, you stay compliant with your product portfolio using the most recent regulatory updates.

To safeguard compliance with applicable obligations, it is essential to keep the underlying regulatory content up to date.

SAP Regulatory Content Service provides continuous updates of embedded phrases. It can be connected to your productive SAP S/4HANA system.

SAP Regulatory Content Service provides updates for:

  • Listed Substance content, underlying your company's substances used in Raw Materials and (unpackaged) products;
  • Phrases with translations;
  • Graphics;
  • Compliance requirement versions.

For technical details, please refer to SAP Note 3055767.

How to Use Regulatory Content - Example

Migration of Product Compliance Data

The Migrate Your Data - Migration Cockpit app is part of SAP S/4HANA.

This is SAP’s recommended approach for the migration of business data.

Screenshot of the Selected Migration Objects list from the Migrate Your Data Migration Cockpit app.

The app facilitates seven migration objects for product compliance data:

  1. Product compliance info to migrate unpackaged and packaged products;
  2. Raw material compliance info;
  3. Substance;
  4. Physical-chemical or safety-related properties;
  5. Dangerous Goods Assessment - for unpackaged products;
  6. Dangerous Goods Assessment - for packaged products;
  7. Dangerous Goods technical names for the substance;
  8. Product Marketability - simple compliance assessment;
  9. Product Marketability - supplier information assessment;
  10. Safety Data Sheets - assessment for unpackaged product;
  11. Safety Data Sheets - shipment history.

The Migration Cockpit app provides templates for each migration object. You find templates for each migration object along with documentation to manage the migration of your legacy product compliance data.

For each migration object, you must check the predecessor object to apply the proper migration sequence.

You can download migration templates for a migration object using the Download Template action. After that, you can choose the file format (XML or CSV).

In the Introduction and Field List tabs, you’ll find valuable information for the preparation of migration files. You can access more details in the column headers (line 8) in each tab of the migration template.
