Exploring the Solution Provisioning of SAP Signavio Plug and Gain

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain the process of solution provisioning and its importance in a business context.

Solution Provisioning

In this lesson, you will explore how to bring plug and gain to life by stepping through the key steps you need to take as an administrator to set up the solution and onboard your end users.

Before you can analyze processes or set up connectors, your first task is to provision the required SAP platforms. This lesson will guide you through the provisioning process and help you understand how it fits into the full project lifecycle. In this lesson, you will get an overview of what activities are performed by whom after contract signature and also help you find the necessary information to access the SAP environment for the first time.

Solution Provisioning

Provisioning the solution is the essential first step that lays the foundation for administrators to continue the setup process and successfully onboard plug and gain end users.

In the last unit, you have seen from an architectural perspective why the setup of plug and gain is speedy and how both data and content are made available within hours. Now, let's broaden your focus to encompass all phases, from the commercial agreement to the realization of business goals, and specifically delve into the aspect of provisioning.

This figure illustrates the steps involved in transitioning from subscription to go-live, detailing actions from finalizing commercials by Customer/SAP, provisioning by SAP, to setup and deployment by the customer.

Once the decision has been taken to optimize business processes with SAP plug and gain and a commercial agreement has been reached between SAP and the customer (as shown on the left side of the figure), solution provisioning activities are kicked off. Please note that the contract start date determines at which point solution provisioning is executed.

In the case of plug and gain, which spans two platforms — SAP Business Technology Platform and SAP Signavio Workspace — two major provisioning activities take place. On one hand, a SAP Business Technology Platform global account will be created for the customer, and on the other hand, a SAP Signavio Workspace will also be set up.

Once your global account has been created, the necessary entitlements for you to run and configure Process Insights will be assigned.

At this point in time, automated emails containing links to the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) global account and the SAP Signavio Workspace will be sent to the IT contact person specified in the contract.

The email related to SAP Signavio Process Insights, notifies you that the solution has been provisioned and includes links to key resources to help you get started. In parallel, if you are entirely new to SAP BTP, you will also receive a provisioning email for your global account, which includes a link to your organization’s global account. Additionally, a second email containing login details for the SAP Signavio Workspace will be sent to your IT contact person.

These emails conclude the provisioning process, which is managed entirely by SAP.

Let's look at the activities that you can now run entirely by yourself to deploy the plug and gain content and start the organization’s optimization journey.

As stated, the actual solution deployment for plug and gain starts with setting up Process Insights and making sure process data is integrated.

SAP Business Technology Platform offers automated procedures to create all artifacts required to run an application, for example building the storage tables, creating the UI and setting up authorization rules. These automated procedures are known as BTP Boosters. SAP Process Insights can also be set up through a booster, which requires you to set only a few parameters.

Once the booster has run successfully and the setup is complete, it is time to bring SAP Process Insights to life by connecting the source system and importing process data into the application.

Your analysis can already begin at this stage. However, to make data available for process mining within Process Intelligence, the Process Insights data needs to be exposed.

To achieve this, an API instance is created on the SAP Business Technology Platform. The service key associated with this instance contains all the necessary details to configure the connector for data transfer into Process Intelligence.

Once the connector is set up and data is stored in the source data tables, you can deploy the content such as process models, investigations, and dashboards.

This completes the technical setup, allowing you to hand over the solution to your end users. From this point forward, the focus shifts to driving business adoption and usage.

As you have seen, all software components required to run plug and gain are provisioned fully automatically, with communication delivered via email to the designated IT contact persons.

Once you have received these emails, you — as the administrator—can complete the setup on your own. If you need assistance, support services are always available to help you kickstart the deployment process.

Summary

SAP Signavio Plug and Gain…

  • assures all software components are available for you to start your process optimization journey and communication happens via mail to the IT contact persons.

  • can be setup by an organization’s administrator autonomously, once the mails have been received. Services are always available to kickstart the deployment, in case support is required.

Let’s now move on to the Value Accelerator Library to see where the content is exposed, before proceeding with an end-to-end demo of the entire setup.
