SAP BusinessObjects integration

SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence on-premise solutions work with SAP Analytics Cloud in a hybrid analytics scenario. In the long term, SAP has strategically positioned SAP Analytics Cloud as the augmented analytics tool. Meanwhile, SAP continues to deliver innovations with SAP BusinessObjects 4.3 as part of a hybrid analytics configuration. This configuration allows SAP Analytics Cloud to access on-premise universes and Web Intelligence documents as a data source.

Identify data for SAP BusinessObjects models

Live data connection can connect to a SAP Business Objects universe model and be used to create stories.

A BusinessObjects universe is an organized collection of metadata objects that enable business users to analyze and report on corporate data in a nontechnical language. These objects include dimensions, measures, and attributes.

The metadata object layer, called the business layer, is built on a relational database schema or an OLAP cube. The objects map directly to the database structures via SQL or MDX expressions.

A universe includes connections identifying the data sources so queries can be run on the data.

With a live data connection with an SAP universe, you can access on premise universe data without moving it to the cloud. You can apply data level security and use powerful query capabilities. Create visualizations using business terms (package independent from 814.3) knowing that your data remains in your on premise trusted network.

A Web Intelligence document is a report usually created from a query of a universe. It is the on premise equivalent of an SAP Analytics Cloud story. It can include calculations, called variables, that are created by the Web Intelligence formula editor and reside within the Web Intelligence document .wid file. This formula editor is very simple and intuitive yet also very powerful.

With a SAP Analytics Cloud live data connection, you can leverage these Web Intelligence documents, including any document variables (formulas) as data sources for SAP Analytics Cloud live models.

Note
Web Intelligence Variables are not to be confused with SAP BW Variables. SAP BW Variables often render as prompts. Web Intelligence variables are simply calculations and formulas that have been defined with a name and will not prompt the user for any information.

Create a live model using a SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence document

Task 1: Log on to SAP Analytics Cloud

Steps

  1. Log on to SAP Analytics Cloud.

    • User: A## or B##.

      ## is your 2-digit group number, and the letter is what your instructor assigned to you.

    • Password: Welcome1.
    1. From your training remote desktop, launch Google Chrome.

    2. Enter the URL (provided by your instructor) for the SAC tenant you will use in class.

    3. Your instructor has assigned you to a group, either A or B, and also given you a 2-digit group number. Log on to SAP Analytics Cloud using the provided credentials.

Task 2: Create a live model

Steps

  1. Create a live model from an SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence document.

    1. From the Navigation Bar choose Modeler (if needed, use the . . . More option).

    2. Choose Live Data Model.

  2. Configure the live data connection to the query using the following information:

    FieldValue
System Type:SAP Universe or Webi Document
    Connection:UNVLive
    Datasource:WID SAC Data Source
    1. Choose Live Data connection on the right, under Connect to live data.

    2. Configure the information above and choose OK.

  3. Select the following fields:

    Select Data
    2 Digit Year
    Lines
    State
    Year
    Quantity sold
    Sales revenue
    Sales Revenue Tax
    1. Drag the fields listed above from Available Data into the Selected Data area.

    2. Choose OK.

    Note
2 Digit Year and Sales Revenue Tax are Web Intelligence variables created in the Web Intelligence document.

    Result

The live model screen opens. You should have three measures and four dimensions.
  4. Save the model as U##M_Live_WebI.

Task 3: Build a story with your live SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence model

Create a story in SAP Analytics Cloud with a table.

Steps

  1. Open the story builder from the model.

    1. Go to Actions.

    2. Choose StoryCanvas.

  2. Add a table with your new U##M_Live_WebI model.

    1. Choose Table.

  3. Remove Measures from the table filter if needed.

  4. Put 2 Digit Year, State, and Lines into the row axis.

    1. Go to the Builder pane on the right.

    2. In the Row axis, choose + Add Dimensions → Select 2 Digit Year, State, and Lines.

  5. Save your story as follows.

    FieldValue
    NameU##S_WebI
    DescriptionU## WebI Story
    1. Press Ctrl+S.

    2. Enter the data provided above.

  6. Return to the home page.

    Result

    You have completed this exercise.
