Row store tables are optimized for fast update, whereas column store tables are optimized for fast read. So does this mean that all applications that need to update data (insert, delete, update) must only use row store? The answer is, no. Even column store tables can handle record updates. To enable this, SAP HANA Cloud uses a smart mechanism called delta merge that runs in the background.
