Introduction: Previewing the Course and Setting Up Prerequisite Tools

After completing this learning journey, business users will be able to describe the need for and role of a citizen developer and how to develop simple low-code/no-code applications and business process automations using the SAP Build toolset. While practicing visual programming, business users will leverage SAP Build Process Automation to create a workflow with robotic process automation, they will use SAP Build Apps to develop a mobile app as well as an SAP extension, and they will get familiar with how to construct business sites using SAP Work Zone. Finally, learners will review how to prepare for the SAP certification for citizen developers and resources for low-code / no-code scenarios and use cases.

Learners should have general expertise in specific business rules and processes for your domain or line of business. We also recommend a basic understanding of SAP Business Technology Platform (https://learning.sap.com/learning-journey/discover-sap-business-technology-platform), although it is not required to successfully complete this course on low-code / no-code.

Following the instructions in the next lessons, you will need to subscribe to:

  • SAP Build Process Automation, the SAP Build Process Automation Desktop Agent and the SAP Launchpad Service for SAP Process Automation.
  • SAP AppGyver Community Edition, SAP Build Apps; SAP Build Preview.

Prerequisites for Learning SAP Build Process Automation

In the second unit of this course, you will learn about SAP Build Process Automation. We’ll start with an overview of no-code business process automation and ideal scenarios for its use. Then you’ll explore the SAP Build Process Automation product and start your first project. During the exercises, you will digitalize and simplify user interactions with forms, see how to release/deploy/run and monitor your process, practice boosting business processes with automation, use conditions to control the flow, and get visibility into your process with monitoring. Finally, you will see real results with SAP Build Process Automation customers.

To practice hands-on with the product as you are following the lessons, you first need to subscribe to SAP Build Process Automation. You can sign up for an account using the free tier as described here: Get Free Access to SAP Build Process Automation

Once you have completed the process, you will need to get the automation desktop agent. Please note that the desktop agent only runs on Windows machines. If you are using a Mac device, you will also need to use a virtual desktop running Windows to install the agent. Please follow the steps here: Installing the Desktop Agent 2 to Run Automations

At the end of Unit 2, you will also have the chance to get insights into the process you built. If you want to complete that lesson, you must first follow the steps described here: Configure SAP Launchpad Service for SAP Build Process Automation, in order to configure the SAP Launchpad Service for SAP Build Process Automation.

Prerequisites for Learning SAP AppGyver Community Edition

In the third unit of this course, you will learn how business users can get started with application development, you’ll explore the SAP Build solutions for building with visual programming, and you’ll review the scenario and plan the app you will build. Then you will dive in to building the mobile app user interface, implementing the logic flow, integrating with an API and doing testing and troubleshooting.

You will need SAP AppGyver Community Edition to complete the hands-on exercises for Unit 3 of your citizen developer learning journey. While its feature-set is more limited than SAP Build Apps, SAP AppGyverCommunity Edition is a great place to quickly get started and learn the basics without an SAP Business Technology Platform account.

It’s fast, easy and free to sign up for the original no-code application development platform at: www.appgyver.com

Prerequisites for Learning SAP Build Apps

In the fourth unit of this learning journey, you will learn to build an enterprise system extension. You’ll start by reviewing the scenario and planning the no-code extension, then you’ll set up the SAP Build Apps project and create the UI. After that you will connect the SAP Sales Cloud Odata API and then get, bind and display the data in your UI. Finally, you will review the outcome and implement final touches.

You will need a free SAP Build Apps subscription to complete Unit 4 of the citizen developer learning journey.

The SAP Build Apps service on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) is available with a subscription booster. Boosters are a set of guided interactive steps that enable you to select, configure, and consume services on SAP BTP to achieve a specific technical goal.

If you already have access to your SAP BTP Cockpit, you can follow the instructions to sign up on this guide:Subscribe to the Low-Code / No-Code Service in SAP BTP | Tutorials for SAP Developers

If you don’t yet have access to SAP BTP, you need to do that first –get started using the link below for free, and then go back to the instructions above for getting the SAP Build booster: SAP Business Technology Platform | Free Tier & Trial Models

Prerequisites for Using SAP Build Preview

While completing Units 3 and 4, you will also need the SAP Build Preview app on your phone, which allows you to see what you are building with SAP AppGyver Community Edition and SAP Build Apps in real-time in the mobile experience.

The SAP Build Preview app is free and available for both iOS and android phones - you can get it directly in the app stores:
