Using Intelligent Configuration Manager

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to view and modify parameters from the Intelligent Configuration Manager

Intelligent Configuration Manager

"I had no idea we can change parameter settings, but to be honest, I never had to deal with them, directly. I just have the parameter name, is that all I need, or is there more to it? I see that I have access to Intelligent Configuration Manager, do you have a moment to show me how we can use this feature?"

"Of course! Lets look at how we can use Intelligent Configuration Manager."

Intelligent Configuration Manager (ICM) is the end-user solution for partners and customers, which allows them to manage configurations across various SAP Ariba services in one centralized location.

Intelligent Configuration Manager (ICM) is the end-user solution for partners and customers, which allows them to manage configurations across various SAP Ariba services in one centralized location.

The ICM user interface allows you to do the following:

  • View and modify site parameters of various SAP Ariba solutions.
  • Test configuration updates in the test site before deploying it in your production site.
  • Audit and approve the updates before deployment.
  • Create and manage deployments of all parameter updates in your site.
  • Audit logs of all activities for security and compliance management.

You must be a member of the Customer Administrator group to access Intelligent Configuration Manager workspace and tasks.

Accessing the Intelligent Configuration Manager

  1. On the dashboard, access Manage﹥Administration.
  2. Click Intelligent Configuration Manager﹥Manage Configurations .
  3. On the Welcome to Intelligent Configuration Manager page, click Continue to go to the Intelligent Configuration Manager home page.

    Note

Select each (+) plus icon for more information about Intelligent Configuration Manager menu navigation.
  4. From the solution area, select the configuration type that you want to update. For example, choose Sourcing and Contracts﹥Parameters.

For more information, choose the PARAMETERSPARAMETERS link to access the list of Strategic Sourcing parameters available in ICM.

Workflow for Updating Configurations for the Site

Administrator: Manage configuration changes

Whenever a configuration change is required, system administrators access the Intelligent Configuration Manager and work on the following steps:

  • Make requested configuration changes in the test site
  • Create package
  • Review package
  • Submit the package for approval

A customer administrator who makes the configuration updates can also act as a tester, approver, or deployer to perform these tasks, or they can work as a team.

Tester: Testing the new configuration

A customer administrator (acting as a tester) verifies the package in the test site, includes test results, and passes the package after testing.

If a tester fails a package, an administrator makes the required changes, and resubmits the package for testing.

Approver: Approving the new package

A customer administrator (acting as an approver) reviews all changes in each package and approves the package for deployment.

Deployer: Deploying the package

The customer administrator processing the new configuration creates the deployment in their test site. They review the deployment and deploy it to the production site.

  • If a deployer discards the deployment, all approved packages in that deployment remain in the test site.
  • If a deployer rejects a package, an administrator makes the required updates, and resubmits the package for testing.

  • If a deployer removes the package, reviews the deployment again, and deploys it to the production site.

"That's great!

So, to perform my task, I need to first access ICM and then modify the relevant parameter from the ICM. Not overly difficult to do and it is nice we can change some parameters on demand."
