Creating an RFC Destination

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create an RFC destination for the gateway

About RFC Destinations

An RFC destination allows you to connect from an ABAP system to an external system. You create an RFC destination to connect with the gateway that you use and send IDocs. Before two or more systems can communicate with each other, you must set up the technical coupling between them. The target host or address for the data transfer is determined during the setup of an RFC destination in the SAP system.

You may need to create two RFC destinations:

  • One destination for the transaction data of the network integration and the SAP Ariba Sourcing integration
  • One destination for Retail Article Master Data Integration with SAP Ariba Sourcing

The RFC destination created for the transaction data will be used for the network's transaction data integration and also for SAP Ariba Sourcing's transaction data integration because the integration of SAP Ariba Sourcing with the on-premise SAP system is leveraged via the network.

Note

Hint: If you're creating an RFC destination for thegateway, ensure that you have access to credentials (P user ID and password) which were obtained when you enabled thegetway settings on the SAP Business Network or SAP Ariba Sourcing application or SAP Ariba Buying and Invoicing application.

Watch the video to learn how to create an RFC Destination for the Managed Gateway for Spend&Network (Direct Connectivity).

Now that you've learned about creating an RFC destination, we'll move on to creating port definition.
