A port is the communication channel through which IDocs are sent. The port describes the technical link between the sending and receiving systems.
Port definition is required to specify the way in which the IDocs are transferred to the EDI subsystem. When the SAP system needs to transfer IDocs outbound (to the other system) or receive IDocs inbound (from the other system), it must know how to communicate with the other system.
The information needed to transfer IDocs to the gateway portal is defined in an RFC destination in SAP. The RFC destination is stored in ports and IDoc communication occurs through the ports.
You may need to create two port definitions:
- One port definition for the transaction data of the network integration and the SAP Ariba Sourcing integration
- One port definition for Retail Article Master Data Integration with SAP Ariba Sourcing

Note
You must create separate ports for network and SAP Ariba applications integration. Use the appropriate RFC destination that you created earlier.
