It combines an easy setup with a clear configuration of the systems that are exposed to SAP Cloud Platform.</p><p tabindex="0">The cloud connector runs as an on-premise agent in a secured network and acts as a reverse invoke proxy between the on-premise network and SAP Cloud Platform. In this lesson, we are going to discuss the Overview of SAP Cloud Connector. The SAP Cloud Connector serves as a link between SAP cloud applications and on-premise systems. It combines an easy setup with a clear configuration of the systems that are exposed to the SAP Cloud. SAP Cloud Connector lets you use existing on-premise assets without exposing the entire internal landscape. The SAP Cloud Connector is an important element in your integration landscape when you are choosing Direct Connectivity Deployment option or choosing Mediated Connectivity Deployment option with SAP CPI Private Tenant Azure Middleware. The Cloud Connector facilitates a secured communication between SAP Cloud Platform or its products and your on-premise back-end SAP system. In CIG Add-on Solution, the Cloud Connector is used only for inbound communication from CIG to your on-premise SAP system. Here, the cloud connector acts as a reverse invoke proxy between CIG and the on-premise SAP systems. Due to its reverse-invoke support, you don't need to configure the on-premise firewall to allow external access from the cloud to internal systems. In the Cloud Connector, you can specify a virtual or dummy hostname and port for a configured on-premise back-end system, which is then used in the CIG project. By this, Cloud Connector masks the identity of the on-premise back-end system and avoids exposing the information on physical hosts to the cloud world, or CIG. Using a unique combination of specific values defined during subaccount configuration, the SSL Tunnel is established from the Cloud Connector to CIG via Reverse Invoke Approach. This gives full control of the tunnel into the hands of the Cloud Connector Administrator. For example, the tunnel can't be established from the cloud or from anywhere else outside the company network, and the Cloud Connector Administrator is the one who decides when the tunnel is established or closed. The tunnel itself is using TLS transportation layer security with strong encryption of the communication and mutual authentication of both sides of the communication, the client side, cloud connector side, and the server side, SCP cloud.
