Our current step in the process takes us to Unit 11: Managing Allowance Templates for Usage Credit.

In the previous unit, Lisa helped Bob create a rate plan template to associate the rate elements with a pricing scheme. Now that he knows how rate plan templates play a role in billing, his next step is to address the free prints he offered his client and create an allowance template.
In our next lesson, Lisa will define a service usage package with an allowance template.
Creating an Allowance Template
Let’s first describe an allowance.
Allowances define an amount of usage credit that can be used together with a subscription. An allowance can be an initial credit that comes with a subscription or purchased separately by the subscriber. Allowances, whether provided at no extra charge or purchased, are displayed on the bill along with the associated balance and the price charged.
An allowance continues from billing cycle to billing cycle until the entire allowance is depleted or the expiration date is reached. When usage data is posted against a contract with a valid allowance at the date and time of consumption, the allowance is debited until the remaining balance is zero. Any excess usage is rated and charged on the bill. Once an allowance is depleted, the subscriber can decide to purchase an additional allowance or continue to be billed for the service.
When creating an allowance template within the Manage Allowance Templates app, provide a description and add the resource types eligible for consumption by the allowances created. Keep in mind that the resource types you add must share the same unit of measure. An allowance template cannot combine resource types with different units of measure.
In the market section, you can define the initial balances, prices and validity periods for allowances based on the allowance template for any market needed.
The section Product Assignments lists the products this allowance template is assigned to.
Let’s learn more about allowance templates by creating one.

Note
Note: To prevent the loss of events during a downtime of your event consumers, consider a persistency and distribution layer for published events, such as SAP Event Mesh. SAP Event Mesh also allows for a decoupling between event providers and event consumers.Summary
Now that we’ve defined an allowance template, let’s move on to setting up a new subscription product. In the next unit, we will cover several topics for setting up new subscription service products - from creating a new product based on an existing rate plan template and creating new rate plans for products to adding custom references and subscription notifications.
