Creating New Rate Plans for Products

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create new rate plans for products during product setup

Creating a Rate Plan

Now that we’ve covered the pricing model and discounts, let’s begin creating a rate plan.

Creating a Rate Plan

Rate plans represent the pricing of products and include information on charges and billing cycles. The rate plan dictates what Subscription Billing determines as a product falling under a One-Time Charge, Recurring Charge, Usage-Based Charge, or a combination of these. As covered earlier in this unit, the prerequisite for a rate plan is a rate plan template. The rate plan is generated from this existing template and assigned to a market. Rate plans, like rate plan templates, are created "with" or "without" pricing schemes.

Note

  • Without the use of SAP Price Calculation, you can still manage product parameters. However, these parameters are limited to stating the quantity of a contract item.
  • Each product is associated with at least one rate plan. Several rate plans can be created, but only one rate plan can be associated with a market.
  • Rate plans with a product usage charge must include technical resources, which allow SAP Subscription Billing rate usage data for the subscription. The SAP Fiori app will prompt you to add the necessary technical resources.

Summary

Next, let’s look at allowance templates.

Create a Product Along with a New Rate Plan

Exercise Objective

After completing this exercise, you will be able to:

  • Use the rate plan template you created to create a product customers can subscribe to.
  • Include allowance templates in new products.
  • Validate the price calculation using SAP Price Calculation.

Business Scenario

Now that you have created the rate plan template and allowance template, you are ready to create a product to subscribe to. You will combine the rate plan template and allowance template to create a product that behaves as required by the business.

Task 1: Create a new product, BR468_##_PRD_PRTSRV. Create a rate plan based on the rate plan template, BR468_##_RPT_PRT_SRV, you created in a previous exercise. Also include the previously created allowance template, BR468_##_AT_PRT_STD. Provide a configuration for the subscription item when creating a subscription to the product.

Steps

  1. Log on to SAP Subscription Billing.

  2. Create a new product using the data from the following table:

    Create a Product

    Product Name & ID
    BR468_##_PRD_PRTSRV
    1. Open the Products SAP Fiori app.

    2. Choose Create.

    3. For the product name and ID, enter BR468_##_PRD_PRTSRV.

    4. In the section, Rate Plans, choose Create.

  3. On the next screen, decide whether to use SAP Price Calculation or SAP Subscription Billing as a pricing source using the data from the following table:

Use SAP Price Calculation or SAP Subscription Billing as a Pricing Source

    MarketDescription
    BR468BR468_##_RPT_PRT_SRV
    1. Selecting With Pricing Scheme will configure the Rate Plan to work with SAP Price Calculation. Choose With Pricing Scheme.

    2. For the market, choose BR4670.

    3. Enable the option, Configurable.

    4. In the field, Rate Plan Template, select F4 to open the search dialog. Select the previously created rate plan template, BR468_##_RPT_PRT_SRV.

    5. For the description, enter BR468_##_RPT_PRT_SRV, and choose Create in the display area of your rate plan dialog.

  4. Add the new technical resources to your product.

    1. The next screen will request whether to add the new technical resources to your product. The new technical resources are preselected. Add the new technical resources by choosing Add Selected Items.

    2. The rate plan should now be listed in the list of rate plans in your product. If you see a message "Contains pricing warning", check the price calculation logic for errors.

    3. In the section, Allowance Templates, choose Add. In the search dialog, select the previously created Allowance Template, BR468_##_AT_PRT_STD. The Allowance Template is added to the product.

  5. Enable the option, Allow Mid-Billing Cycle Expiration.

    1. In the section, Subscription Terms, enable the option, Allow Mid-Billing Cycle Expiration.

    2. Choose Create. A message displays that the product is created.

    3. On the top-right, choose Publish. The product is published and now available to subscribe.
