In SAP Price Calculation, the Manage Field Catalog app lets you manage the fields used in pricing conditions. Fields with data describe different pricing relevant attributes used to perform the price calculation process. The app allows you to create, edit, and delete these fields.
Ultimately, these fields will be used in a lookup table, the subject of our next Unit. For now, know that fields in the Manage Field Catalog form the backbone of data structures that enable the functionality of SAP Price Calculation. These fields and tables together, create a framework for managing, relating, and calculating price-related data.
The fields in a lookup table work as a map to connect an input value to an output value providing a way to manage and retrieve data. For example, an input could be a product code or a market ID, which comes from the SAP Subscription Billing.
Let’s learn more about fields in the Manage Field Catalog app.

Know the Field Types

There are five different types of fields:
- Date: The Date field type is composed of day/month/year in a calendar. Dates can only be set to External. Dates are used as reference to the validity period to retrieve data from a lookup table when creating a pricing tree. In a lookup table, the dates are not available for output fields or input fields.
- String: A field type String allows a maximum length of 2,000 characters. String can be used in a lookup table and as an attribute of an item in a priceable document. It can be set to Internal or External.
- Quantity: The Quantity field type is represented by a decimal number attached to a unit of measure. The decimal number of a quantity cannot exceed 22 significant digits and have more than 6 decimal places. For more information on the Units of Measure supported, see Units of Measure on the SAP Help Portal. A Quantity field type can be used in a lookup table and an attribute of an item in a priceable document. This quantity must be a positive number because you cannot sell or buy a negative amount of something, and it will alter the total price. Also, the quantity can be internal or external.
- Ratio: A field type set to Ratio is represented as a fraction. It cannot be used as output in a lookup table. It can only be used as an attribute of an item in a priceable document. The numerator and a denominator of the ratio must be positive numbers. And the denominator cannot be zero.
- Price Condition: A price condition is a pricing model that determines the price of a one price element. A price condition determines the monetary amount from a quantity (the value used to compute the price), and a scale value (the value used to determine the price for certain calculation types). The Price Condition field type can only be used as an output of a lookup table. Also, it can only be internal.
