Leveraging SAP Enterprise Architecture Framework Services

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to deploy services within the SAP Enterprise Architecture Framework

SAP Enterprise Architecture Framework Services

Modular Service Approach: North Star Architecture service

Services are supporting transformations by applying the methodology and using EA tooling and reference architecture content. Services can be sourced from SAP, other external providers, or provided by the organization performing the practice. They can include enablement of different EA target roles in customers' and partners' organizations provided.

This figure illustrates the Modular Service Approach.

The North Star Architecture service approach can be used to support transformation programs. This support can be run jointly by customer and SAP teams or by only one of the parties.

The offering is grouped in modules which are further grouped in categories that partially matches the SAP EA Methodology domains.

The benefit of the approach is that many modules are no longer generic tasks like "Roadmap", but rather form a stringent set of often specific architecture work. During scoping specific modules can be identified and can be delivered in three levels of depth:

  • Informal - This is only an outside in perspective of the topics
  • Light - implies on workshop with a limited but customer specific outcome
  • Focus - implies specific preparation calls and a dedicated customer specific delivery

No single service will demand that all modules will need to be delivered from left to right. We rather see a set of service components and recommend to split up the overall delivery into more consumable so called 'delivery patterns'. The three patterns shown are examples of a longer list of pre-defined patterns.

The benefit of the pattern is, that they come with a pre-defined aligned flow of inputs and outputs between the different modules.
