The diagnostic tool assists in troubleshooting issues in HRIS Elements (MDF objects are not supported) related to workflows, manager and employee self-service, and Add New Hire transactions. The tool is applicable only to transactions saved using the Edit, History, or Take Action options.
The diagnostic tool is not a replacement for the Check Tool. Where the Check tool is used to suggest fixes to missing or inconsistent data and misconfiguration across the SAP SuccessFactors suite, the diagnostic tool is centered on providing a snapshot view and rule execution view details for HRIS elements that allow you to trace what may have happened in a transaction.
Enabling the Diagnostic Tool
It is recommended to restrict the diagnostic access to a limited admin permission group as diagnostic result may include sensitive data. Set the following administrator permissions to enable the use of diagnostic tool.
- Admin Center Permissions → Access Diagnostic Tool
- Diagnostic Tool → Select All
Transaction Type: Workflow
For workflow transaction type, the diagnostic tool provide details on workflows triggered against HRIS Elements. The diagnostic tool only captures details if the workflow actions and approvals are done from Workflow Details page in the web browser.
The tool cannot capture approvals made in mobile, the quick approval card in the home page, and actions made by administrators using the Manage Workflow Requests.
The diagnostic data is retained for 10 days and extended for another 10 days when an action is taken in the workflow.

The diagnostic data captures the following information:
- Workflow IDs, Derivation rule, escalation and delegation
- Workflow Participants
- Email information
- All workflow actions from initiation to approval

Transaction Type: Centralized Services
For Centralized Services, the diagnostic data is comprised of Snapshot View and Rule Execution View. The snapshot view provides a summary of the transaction process after the save transaction is executed while the rule execution view highlights the excluded records, excluded rules and executed rules allowing you to analyze the issues in the transaction.

Unlike the workflow diagnostics, the diagnostic data for Centralized Services is not captured automatically. A tracing must first be activated in Manage Data. Once the Diagnostics Trace is created and activated, the trace will capture transactions saved using the Edit, History, or Take Action options for 15 minutes.
