Managing Goals in Goal Management

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain the organization of goals in the Performance and Goals modules and identify the components of a goal plan

Introduction to Goal Management

Goal plans are online worksheets used by the employee and manager to create and access performance goals in one central place. They can be used to track an employee's progress throughout the year. The look and feel of the goal plan are controlled by goal plan templates. A goal plan template is used to define the categories and fields for the goals plans.

Components of a Goal Plan

Goal categories, goal fields and the visibility of goals are components of a goal plan and determine the way the goals are organized. The configuration of the goal plan template and its components is highly dependent on the customer's policies, procedures, and business rules

A customer may have more than one goal plan template active at any time, and goals may be copied from one goal plan to another.

Organization of Goals

ComponentDescription
CategoriesOrganizations can opt for a basic goal plan containing one category or an extended goal plan with multiple categories. Customers can add categories as needed.
FieldsGoals are defined by their fields. Employees can track their progress and update the goal fields. Standard and customer-defined fields can be configured to meet requirements on the data captured per goal. Examples of standard goal fields are: Name, Metric, Weight, Status or % Complete.
VisibilityEmployees can choose to mark their goals as public or private. Public goals are accessible to a larger group, whereas private goals are typically restricted to the employee and manager (and other users if permissioned.)
