Configuring Numbering Schemes and Numbering Scheme Contents

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure numbering schemes and numbering scheme contents.

Categories of Numbering Schemes

Nomenclatures used in international trade are represented in SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) by numbering schemes. When creating a numbering scheme in Customizing, you automatically opt for one of the numbering scheme types predefined in the program code. The type of numbering scheme for customs tariffs, for example, is 101 Tariff Numbers (ECT, HS).

There are several types of numbering schemes for classification in Customs Management. When using the Classify Products app, you therefore have to select one of the types of numbering schemes provided for Customs Management before you can start the assignment of codes to products.

Types of Numbering Schemes

Not all types of numbering schemes available in Customs Management are actually meant for customs purposes. Numbering schemes for authority codes and license relevance codes, for example, are used to provide additional data that customs collects on behalf of other authorities. In SAP GTS, these authorities are referred to as partner government agencies (PGA). You will learn more about PGAs and their nomenclatures in the Using Dependent Procedures and Government Agency Codes lesson.

You can find the complete list of numbering scheme types in the value range of the /SAPSLL/CTSTY_N domain. The structure of the Customizing for numbering schemes largely corresponds to this list (SAP Global Trade Services, edition for SAP HANAGeneral SettingsNumbering Schemes).

Note

To access the numbering schemes for authority codes, additional tariff numbers, and license relevance codes, choose SAP Global Trade Services, edition for SAP HANAGeneral SettingsNumbering SchemesTariff Numbers.

How to Use Numbering Scheme Types

Function of a Numbering Scheme Content

In addition to the mapping of a nomenclature in the form of a numbering scheme, you have to define a numbering scheme content to specify the data source of the numbering scheme you defined in the first step (data provider or manual maintenance). The assignment of a numbering scheme content to a numbering scheme is a precondition for the upload or the manual maintenance of codes from any of the nomenclatures mapped in SAP GTS.

Numbering Scheme Content

A numbering scheme content defines the structure of the nomenclature that it represents in SAP GTS. The time-dependency of individual codes and the types of texts that can be maintained for a code are also specified at numbering scheme content level. In the Implementation Guide, the Customizing activities for the definition of numbering scheme contents directly follow the Customizing activities for the definition of numbering schemes (SAP Global Trade Services, edition for SAP HANAGeneral SettingsNumbering SchemesCommodity CodesDefine Numbering Scheme Content for Commodity Codes, for example).

The assignment of a numbering scheme content to a numbering scheme is referred to as the activation of a numbering scheme content ( SAP Global Trade Services, edition for SAP HANAGeneral SettingsNumbering SchemesCommodity CodesActivate Numbering Scheme Content for Commodity Codes, for example). This assignment is always linked to a validity period. If you decide to change your data provider, you add an entry for the numbering scheme content representing the new data provider and adjust the validity period of the previous assignment accordingly.

Unit of Measurement Systems

Delivery Customizing for SAP GTS provides you with a variety of unit of measurement systems. Unit of measurement systems are used to map SAP-internal units to their equivalents used by the customs authorities. These equivalents are referred to as external units of measurement. The unit of measurement system EU001 Units of Measure for CN/TARIC, for example, contains a selection of the unit codes recommended by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) for electronic data interchange.

Unit of Measurement System

Fill in missing codes if necessary. You can assign exactly one internal unit to each external unit. If an internal unit corresponds to more than one external unit, designate one of these units as the primary unit by setting the Prim. UoM indicator.

The mapping of internal units to external units is mainly used for the conversion of an item quantity into the quantity in the special unit of measure of the commodity code or customs tariff number, if required. This conversion takes place in the customs declaration. If the conversion is not necessary for a particular unit, set the UoM not relevant indicator.
