Configuring the User Interface

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Understand SAP Fiori parameter mapping
  • Understand where to find more information regarding WebClient UI configuration

SAP Fiori Parameter Mapping

Business Example

You want to learn more about the configuration of SAP Fiori navigation parameter mapping.

SAP Fiori Navigation Parameter Mapping

A screenshot is shown of Fiori Navigation Parameter Mapping.

SAP S/4HANA Service supports both the WebClient user interface (WebClient UI) and the SAP Fiori user interface. When navigating from the WebClient UI to the SAP Fiori UI, the so-called semantic object, semantic action, and the related parameters need to be known. These can all be specified in Customizing.

Navigate to SAP Customizing Implementation GuideServiceBasic FunctionsUI NavigationDefine Parameter Mapping.

SAP pre-delivers configurations for these navigation parameters, for example:

Field NameValue
UI Object TypeEQUI (Equipment)
UI ActionB (Display)
Semantic ObjectMaintenanceObject
Semantic ActiondisplayFactSheet
Parameter Name 1MaintenanceObject
Parameter Value 1@EQUIPMENT
Parameter Name 2TechObjIsEquipOrFuncnlLoc
Parameter Value 2EAMS_EQUI

Note

It is possible to enter a constant, for example, EAMS_EQUI, or a Business Object Layer (BOL) entity path, for example, @EQUIPMENT as a parameter value. It is possible to change the semantic object, semantic action, parameter name, and parameter value based on specific requirements.

WebClient UI Configuration for Service

Business Example

You want to learn where you can find more information regarding the configuration/adaptation possibilities for the WebClient UI, which can be used in combination with SAP S/4HANA Service.

Web UI Configuration

A screenshot is shown of the documentation for the WebClient UI Framework for Service.

The WebClient UI‎‎ is an ‎‎online‎‎ ‎‎user interface‎‎ that was originally developed for SAP ‎‎Customer Relationship Management (CRM). It is also available for use with SAP S/4HANA. The ‎‎WebClient‎‎ ‎‎UI‎‎ provides a role-based user interface with customizable ‎‎navigation‎ options. The WebClient UI is designed for the business user and presents a role-based workspace that provides an easy-to-use navigation and user interface.

The WebClient UI framework defines the software architecture of the WebClient UI.

The following link can be used to access the SAP documentation for the WebClient UI framework on the SAP Help Portal: https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_S4HANA_ON-PREMISE/c9b5e9de6e674fb99fff88d72c352291/ac9fe5458c2e4830a36a52586ecf2395.html

It is also possible to navigate to https://help.sap.com and then, in the search field, enter WebClient UI Framework, followed by Enter. The search result pointing to SAP S/4HANA is the one that is relevant in this context.

The UI configuration works in the same way as it did in the past for SAP CRM, but many new features have been added, such as SAP Fiori style object pages, responsive layouts, and so on.

Access the following link for more information on responsive layouts: https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_S4HANA_ON-PREMISE/c9b5e9de6e674fb99fff88d72c352291/737d4e359b0e479f8b32191ed33f67ee.html.

It is also possible to navigate to https://help.sap.com and then, in the search field, enter Responsive Layout, followed by Enter. The search result pointing to SAP S/4HANA is the one that is relevant in this context.

Access the following link for more information on overview pages with an SAP Fiori layout: https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_S4HANA_ON-PREMISE/c9b5e9de6e674fb99fff88d72c352291/07a30f7b529842e1ad88dd082e04c094.html.

It is also possible to navigate to https://help.sap.com and then, in the search field, enter Overview Pages with Fiori Layout, followed by Enter. The search result pointing to SAP S/4HANA is the one that is relevant in this context.

The WebClient UI applications support extensibility by adding custom fields in SAP S/4HANA. This enables customers and partners to adapt standard applications to their business needs by ways of adding extension fields for pre-defined business contexts. Access the following link for more information on the integration with the apps used to do this (the Custom Fields app and the app Custom Logic): https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_S4HANA_ON-PREMISE/c9b5e9de6e674fb99fff88d72c352291/bedc6682e8b94dfd973965362de7bb5a.html.

It is also possible to navigate to https://help.sap.com and then, in the search field, enter Integration With Custom Fields App and Custom Logic App, followed by Enter. The search result pointing to SAP S/4HANA is the one that is relevant in this context.

Another useful source of information is a blog with a step-by-step guide on how to add custom fields in the WebClient UI configuration. This blog can be found using the following link: https://blogs.sap.com/2021/04/16/adding-custom-fields-in-webclient-ui-apps/.
