Processes in Sales and Distribution:
In this unit, the Sales part of the Sales and Distribution process is reviewed, so that you can understand and position the topic of outline agreements better in SAP S/4HANA.

Every sales activity that you undertake in the SAP system is recorded with a sales document.
You can represent different business processes in sales, shipping, and billing with specifically-designed document types:
Sales document types (for example: an inquiry, a quotation, a standard sales order)
Delivery types (for example: an outbound delivery, a returns delivery)
Billing document types (for example: an invoice, a credit memo, a debit memo)
An outline agreement is another example of a sales document type, that serves a specific purpose in a Sales and Distribution process.
Each document is identified with a unique document number. There are various search options available to help you search for the document(s) you need.
Each document is assigned an overall status, which reflects its processing status. The overall status of a document depends on the different status values present in it.
Sales Document Structure
In this course, Jim and Liv will explain some of the relevant concepts. Jim works as an SAP S/4HANA Sales application consultant, and Liv works as an SAP S/4HANA Sales business process owner. She is very familiar with the business requirements in the area of Sales.
It is important to have an understanding of the general structure of a sales document, since this structure is also relevant for outline agreements and their release orders.
Note
See the following video, in which Jim and Liv give you, as a recap of what you learned before, some more information about the structure of a sales document in SAP S/4HANA:Note
As stated, the presented structure for a (generic) sales document also applies to outline agreements, which is the topic of this course.
