Configuring Production Supervisors and Production Scheduling Profiles for Discrete Manufacturing

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure production supervisors and production scheduling profiles for Discrete Manufacturing

Production Supervisors and Production Scheduling Profiles for Discrete Manufacturing

Production Supervisors and Production Scheduling Profiles in Production Orders

The assignment of production supervisors to your production orders enables you to manage your orders effectively. You can precisely select and process the production orders in your area of responsibility in reporting and mass processing.

Furthermore, by assigning production scheduling profiles, you can optimize and partially automate various processing steps in production order execution.

Assignment of a Production Supervisor and a Production Scheduling Profile

You can assign a production supervisor and a production scheduling profile to the material masters of a product. When a production order is created with reference to the material, the production supervisor and the production scheduling profile are copied from the material master to the order.

You can also assign a production scheduling profile to a production supervisor. However, a production scheduling profile directly assigned in the material master of a product has a higher priority than a production scheduling profile assigned to the production supervisor.

Define Production Supervisors for Discrete Manufacturing

Production supervisors for discrete manufacturing are defined on plant level in the configuration activity, Define Production Supervisor for Discrete Manufacturing

As already mentioned, you can also assign a production scheduling profile to a production supervisor.

If you assign a production supervisor in the master data of a product to which no production scheduling profile is explicitly assigned, the production scheduling profile assigned to the production supervisor is copied into the order when a production order is created. If a production scheduling profile is assigned directly in the material master, this profile is copied into the order and the profile assigned to the production supervisor is not considered.

In a production scheduling profile, you can:

  • Specify that certain business transactions or processes are to be carried out in parallel in a production order:
    • Order release at the time the order is created
    • Generation of document link from the material master when the order is created
    • Generation of document link from a BOM when the order is created
    • Scheduling upon order release
    • Generation of document link from the material master upon order release
    • Generation of document link from a BOM upon order release
  • Specify whether only partial quantities are to be confirmed at the time of an availability check.
  • Specify that an automatic goods receipt is to take place.
  • Specify that in the case of the confirmation:
    • No short quantities are to be updated
    • No excess quantities are to be updated
    • Neither short nor excess quantities are to be updated
    • An adjustment of the operation and component quantities to the actual values is to take place
  • Make various specifications in the area of batch management:
    • Automatic batch creation when an order is opened
    • Branching to batch classification when a batch is changed
    • Generation of a batch split record in the production order for each batch that is found
    • Definition of a default date for the date of manufacture with possible offset
  • Specify settings regarding transport:
    • Specify that only transport requirements are to be created if transport requirements can be generated for all the components of the operation
    • Specify that either the committed quantities or the required quantities are to be taken into account when transport requirements are generated
    • Specify that the creation of transport requirements is to take place automatically
  • Specify which order type is to be suggested depending on the business process

You can assign a production scheduling profile to the following:

  • Material (Work Scheduling screen in material master)
  • Production supervisor

The assignment to a material is a higher priority.

The production scheduling profile is adopted in the production order at the time that the order is opened.
