Maintaining Master Data for Results Recording

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Maintain the QM view of a material master for results recording
  • Enrich a manufacturing task list with data required for in-process inspections

QM-Specific Data in the Material Master for Results Recording

The master data record of a material in SAP S/4HANA is split up into different views. Some views (for example, the Basic Data view) are valid for entities defined in the client. Other views (for example, the Quality Management view) are plant-specific such that the user can maintain different QM-related settings for different plants.

The Quality Management view of the material master contains the control parameters you need to execute quality processes throughout the logistics supply chain.

To record inspection results by characteristic for the production order, the indicators Inspect with Task List and Inspect by Characteristics must be set in the Inspection Type for Inspection Lot Origin 03 in the inspection setup of the material master (Quality Management view).

Note

If required due to business reasons, you can also define multiple inspection types for one inspection lot origin. If multiple inspection types of the same inspection lot origin are active in the same combination of material and plant, you can mark one inspection type as preferred inspection type. If no inspection type is marked as preferred, the SAP S/4HANA system uses the default inspection type defined in customizing for the creation of the inspection lot.

Note

If you want to capture inspection results for goods receipt inspections already during production, you can use early inspection for a goods receipt. This concept will be discussed in a later chapter of this course.

How to Change the QM view of a Material Master for Results Recording for In-Process Inspections

Update Task List and add Quality Management Information

If quality inspections are carried out during the manufacturing process, production and inspection operations are often very closely linked with each other. For this reason, the routing, the master recipe and the Reference Operation Set in the SAP system also acts as an inspection plan for inspections during production. This means that the team in quality management (QM) completes the master planning data with a number of inspection specifications.

Note

You can use reference operation sets as building blocks for routings in order to summarize steps which are common in multiple routings. In the respective routing, you then just refer to the reference operation set.

In the following example, the production routing consists of two manufacturing operations. In the second operation, the Master Data Specialist maintains inspection characteristics to enable in-process inspections. Here, they define whether the characteristic type is quantitative or qualitative, the sampling procedure, and whether tools are required to perform a measurement. If they want to change the inspection scope using dynamic modification, they must assign dynamic modification settings on the header of the task list and, if necessary, also on characteristic level.

  • The PRT category you use depends on the business function of the production resource/tool (for example, PRT category "material" for production resources/tools you want to take into account in inventory management).

  • You assign the production resources/tools to the operations of your routing for which they are required as test equipment.

  • You assign the production resources/tools of the operations to the inspection characteristics for which they are required as test equipment.

Note

If you have assigned more than one header material to your routing, you can assign different PRTs for each header material.
