If quality inspections are carried out during the manufacturing process, production and inspection operations are often very closely linked with each other. For this reason, the routing, the master recipe and the Reference Operation Set in the SAP system also acts as an inspection plan for inspections during production. This means that the team in quality management (QM) completes the master planning data with a number of inspection specifications.
Note
You can use reference operation sets as building blocks for routings in order to summarize steps which are common in multiple routings. In the respective routing, you then just
refer to the reference operation set.
In the following example, the production routing consists of two manufacturing operations. In the second operation, the Master Data Specialist maintains inspection characteristics to enable in-process inspections. Here, they define whether the characteristic type is quantitative or qualitative, the sampling procedure, and whether tools are required to perform a measurement. If they want to change the inspection scope using dynamic modification, they must assign dynamic modification settings on the header of the task list and, if necessary, also on characteristic level.
The PRT category you use depends on the business function of the production resource/tool (for example, PRT category "material" for production resources/tools you want to take into account in inventory management).
You assign the production resources/tools to the operations of your routing for which they are required as test equipment.
You assign the production resources/tools of the operations to the inspection characteristics for which they are required as test equipment.
Note
If you have assigned more than one header material to your routing, you can assign different PRTs for each header material.
