Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to execute the quality inspection process for an outbound delivery

Execution of Outbound Delivery Inspections

Play the following video to learn how you perform an outbound delivery process with a quality inspection.

Effect of Delivery Processing on Inspection Lots

So far, we discussed the 'straight-forward' process for quality inspections for outbound deliveries. However, the realistic business process might not always be 'straight-forward'. Therefore, it is important to understand how changing the delivery in the SD component affects the inspection lots in QM.

The key events include the following activities:

  • Changing the delivery item

If a delivery item is changed in SD, the inspection lot also reflects these changes. For example, if you change the quantity of a material for the delivery item, the system also changes the actual lot quantity.

  • Deleting the delivery item

If you delete a delivery item the system reacts in different ways, depending on the inspection lot status. For example, if the sample size has not been calculated, the inspection lot is canceled. If you already executed a usage decision for the inspection lot, the system cancels the lot. If you have not recorded a usage decision, the system marks the lot for cancellation.

  • Executing a batch split

If a batch is split and the delivery is saved, the system automatically creates a partial lot for each batch, depending on the setting Control of Inspection Lot Creation in the inspection settings of material master record. You can either create one inspection lot for each batch split item and record the inspection results on the inspection lot level, or you can create one inspection lot for the header item. For each batch split item, the system creates a partial lot below the inspection lot on the header item. In this case, you execute results recording for each partial lot.

Play the following video to see two alternatives for quality inspections for outbound deliveries with batch splits.

Irrespective of the used variant, the Quality Engineer must in all cases perform a usage decision for the inspection lot. Assuming that you follow the standard approach (that is, the usage decision is mandatory before you can post the goods issue), the Warehouse Clerk can only post goods issue if you accepted the entire quality inspection. In case of rejection, you must, for example, assign a different batch and re-execute the quality inspection and usage decision.
