Managing Labels

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to modify and add custom labels

Labels

Labels in SAP SuccessFactors Learning are the text elements that appear in the interfaces and notifications for both Administrators and users. These labels can be easily customized to change specific words or phrases.

Customization Options

Administrators have two options for modifying labels:

  1. Direct Modification: Labels can be changed directly within the SAP SuccessFactors Learning platform.
  2. Export and Import: Labels can also be exported to a file, edited, and then imported back into the system.

Internationalization Support

Labels play a crucial role in making the product accessible in different languages. For each installed language pack, administrators can adjust the text that users see when they select their preferred language. As a result, the user interface and notifications will display in the user's default or chosen language.

Enable a Locale (Language)

Sometimes a customer will need to add a new language to their system. To do this, an administrator will create a new Locale. Once created, the standard labels on the administrator and user sides will be displayed in the new language to anyone who has chosen the locale in their preferences.

Also, localized fields may now be updated to include values in the new language and certain entities such as assessments and surveys may be created for each locale.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Learning AdministrationReferencesManage LabelsLocales.

  2. Choose Search to see all currently enabled locales.

The enabled Locales are highlighted on the locales screen.
  3. Choose the Add New link (to add an additional one that is not currently listed as available).

  4. Choose the Active Locale ID dropdown list and select the desired locale to add.

  5. Enter a Description.

  6. Select Both from the Use By dropdown if you want this locale to be available to both administrators and users.

Localization of Data

Localization exists for many of the data fields that are visible to users. Adding the translated values can quickly be done in bulk using the Label Import/Export tool, or on the individual entities to add/modify localized data. If customers use one entity which can display its title in multiple languages, this will ultimately reduce the number of entities administrators need to manage.

The use of locale labels can provide more consolidated reporting, analysis, and data management due to localization support for reports, SAP SuccessFactors Learning Offline, web services, and the search framework. The following are examples of localized fields:

  • Item Types – Description
  • Items – Title and Description
  • Curricula – Title and Description
  • Categories – Description
  • Competency – Rating Criteria
  • Competency – Description
  • Competency – Explanation
  • Assignment Types – Description
  • Completion Status – Description

When more than one language pack is installed, the globe icon displays to the right of each field, as shown in the figure below. When an administrator completes the field entry area, the value entered is assigned to the label for the administrator’s active locale.

The globe icons that display next to the Title and Audience text fields are highlighted in the Item Details tab.

Selecting the globe opens a label editing pop-up window where the user can enter label values for each locale available, as shown in the figure below.

The pop-up window where the user can enter label values for each locale available is displayed.
