Describing the Growth Portfolio

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explore and use Growth Portfolio capabilities

Overview of Growth Portfolio

The Growth Portfolio is part of the Talent Intelligence Hub centralized framework. It works as a unique repository where employees can store their role-specific (cascaded based on the employee's role) and person-specific attributes. Attributes in a portfolio can dynamically change based on a person's preference and aspirations.

People in the organization can access attributes from the Attributes Library to add the required attributes to their portfolio. The Attributes Library enables people to shape and refine a digital picture continuously of their whole self, to evaluate who they're today, and to decide what they want to be in future.

Growth Portfolio uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms to recommend suitable skills for employees. It can also be integrated with SAP SuccessFactors Opportunity Marketplace to enable people find relevant opportunities matching their work preferences and work styles.

Growth Portfolio can be accessed from the Home Page Quick Actions or the Home menu.

SAP SuccessFactors home screen features Quick Actions, highlighting View My Growth Portfolio.

Enablement of Growth Portfolio

An administrator can enable the Growth Portfolio from Manage Talent Intelligence Hub SettingsPortfolio Settings. Once it is enabled, permissions can be granted for users in Role-Based Permissions for the Growth Portfolio category.

Using the Growth Portfolio as an Employee

Users can access the Growth Portfolio as a central repository of attributes and ratings that reflect the whole self. They can add attributes based on recommendations, explore development opportunities in Opportunity Marketplace, highlight their most relevant attributes, display the historical ratings, and so on. Some of the whole self data captured in the Growth Portfolio responds to the different employees' concerns:

  • Aspirations: Where do I want to go?
  • Preferences: How do I want to get there?
  • Strengths and styles: How do I tick?
  • Skills and capabilities: What do I know? What can I do?

The following example shows the end user view including the different sections displayed in the Growth Portfolio.

The example illustrates the end user view, showcasing the various sections in the Growth Portfolio.

Within the Growth Portfolio, employees can complete the following actions:

  • Display AI-Assisted Skill Recommendations* based on their activities and Add/Skip these.
  • Add attributes (Competency/Skill/Custom) into their Growth Portfolio, from the available attributes maintained in Manage Talent Intelligence Hub by an administrator. Those Skills that have an Created Type: INFERRED, from AI-Assisted recommendations* or AI-Assisted Skill Architecture creation*, need to be updated to CONFIRMED to become available for end users.

    Note

*The AI-Assisted capabilities require an SAP AI Units license. More information Premium AI Features in SAP SuccessFactors
  • The attribute picker allows to search by keywords or filter by Tags (categories). Talent Intelligence Hub comes with 3 standard Tags (Core, Critical, Trending), and additionally, Tags can be created as needed by an administrator. The content migrated from Job Description Manager / Job Profile Builder / Center of Capabilities, will convert the library names, categories and groups into Tags, that can be used for filtering.
  • Users can mark attributes as "I'm passionate about", to indicate that the employee is highly interested in that attribute. This setting will be used to display opportunities matching the employee's work preferences and styles in Opportunity Marketplace.
  • Remove attributes from the Growth Portfolio, selecting a reason (Not interested anymore or Added by mistake).
  • Display attribute details, including Name, Tag(s), Description, Proficiency Rating, Proficiency Level Scale and Timeline, which will include an audit trail (when attribute was added, proficiency rating changes including source, date and by whom it was done).

Attributes can be searched within the Growth Portfolio using several filtering options:

The available filtering options to search for attributes, are displayed. The Category option is selected with the possible choices.

Note

The Latest Career Worksheet upgrade can be reverted within 30 days. For more information, you can check on the implementation guide for Career Development Planning Overview of Latest Career Worksheet

Once the upgrade to Latest Career Worksheet is completed, the Growth Portfolio landing page is replaced with this new version.

The redesigned GP includes Roles and Aspirations to display target roles and explore career options.

The landing page will show the following sections:

  • Skills and Attributes. Will display the total number of attributes of every type that belongs to the employee's Growth Portfolio, such as Competencies, skills and custom attributes. Users can select the attribute type to drill down into a landing page to review and manage their portfolio.
  • Roles and Aspirations. Target roles added from the Career Worksheet will show up, as well as the current role. Users can navigate to Explore Career Options, to find job roles matching their preferences, as well as trending roles within their team, next career move or roles of people like them (requires Career Explorer). Recommendations follow the Suggested Roles tool algorithm or Career Explorer, as well as Core/Critical attributes or those marked as passionate by the user. More information available in Recommended Roles in Latest Career Worksheet
From the redesigned Growth Portfolio, users can explore recommendations on career options.

With the integration points between Talent Intelligence Hub and SAP SuccessFactors Learning, Career Development Planning and Mentoring, or Opportunity Marketplace, users can perform several tasks on the attribute details:

  • Advance My Proficiency: Explore proficiency-based learning suggestions, which may vary based on the current proficiency level for the skill. Those suggestions for the next higher proficiency level for the skill appear first, followed by the suggestions for the current proficiency level. Users can also navigate to the Learning Home Page to explore learning resources. To display this section, enable the following setting in Company System and Logo SettingsEnable the Advance My Proficiency section in the Growth Portfolio.Within the Skill details, there is a suggestion coming from SAP SuccessFactors Learning.
  • Development Goals. Any development goals associated to the attribute (Competency/Skill) will display in this section. Goals can also be created as needed from here.

Manager Experience on the Redesigned Growth Portfolio

Managers in the organization can choose the Team View button, like on the Growth Portfolio standard UI, but they will have additional capabilities on the Redesigned Growth Portfolio, which include the ability to track their team's career development, role aspirations and skill growth.

Managers can access the Team View button from the Growth Portfolio.

The Team View will include a Summary, which is organized in

  • Roles and Aspirations.
  • Identify Skill Strengths.
  • Recognize Skills to improve.

The Roles and Aspirations section includes the job roles that the employees currently hold (Current Roles) and the top three most popular target roles employees have added (Popular Target Roles). Besides role names, managers can view the team's readiness for each role and employees' information.

The roles and aspirations of the team are visible in the Summary.

The Identify Skill Strengths section includes the top five skills and attributes where employees meet or exceed expectations. Managers can select a skill or attribute and an employee to track their skill development over time. They can also filter skills and attributes by roles, and focus on critical skills and attributes only, as well as view their employee's development activities linked to specific skills and attributes, including development goals, assignments or learning.

The section shows skills where employees met or exceeded expectations over time.

The Recognize Skills to Improve section shows the top five skills and attributes where employees have gaps compared to the expectations. The actions available in this section are the same as those in the Identify Skill Strengths section. Any development activities that the employees have been working on, would also be available here.

Recognize Skills to improve section.

The Skills and Attributes tab shows the Team View identical as the Growth Portfolio standard UI. The same actions are available, for the filtering options, display of reports and edit mode to change proficiency ratings, add attributes and more.

Approval Workflow for Assigned Ratings in Growth Portfolio

The proficiency ratings given from the Growth Portfolio might be coming from sources like a Performance Management form where are rating given at a Competency and/or Skill will update the proficiency rating in the employee's Growth Portfolio once the form is completed.

However, there might be other scenarios where employees can add themselves Skills, Competencies or other attributes from the recommendations (for Skills) or via the attributes picker (for any attribute type). The ability to edit the proficiency rating might be permissioned to the user to make changes, but there are ways to prevent this, if needed:

  • Removing the permission in RBP: User PermissionsGrowth PortfolioEdit Proficiency Level.
  • Allowing the user to change ratings but set up an approval process using business rules.

With the approval process, a new business rule scenario is available in Configure Business Rules to determine which attribute types would require approval and to whom the workflow should be sent to.

The category Talent Intelligence Hub includes a rule scenario to set up workflows for assigned ratings in GP

On the rule, we can determine any of the following conditions in order to trigger an approval workflow. Conditions can be standalone, combined (Parent And), or one of the conditions to be met (Parent Or).

  • Attribute Type.External Code. As an example, you could set as a condition that the proficiency level changes for the Attribute Type=SKILL should trigger a workflow. You can find out the external code in Manage Talent Intelligence Hub.
  • Attribute.Role-Based Attribute. This is a boolean field (Yes/No). You could have as a condition that only proficiency level changes for attributes that are not mapped to employee's job role to require an approval.
  • Tag.External Code. You could determine that proficiency level changes on attributes with Core and Critical tags should require an approval. You can find out the external code in Manage Talent Intelligence Hub.
This example shows a business rule set up to approve rating changes on Skills and Competencies to be sent to the manager.

The business rule is assigned on the Manage Rule Assignments tool, as seen in this example:

The Manage Rule Assignments shows the Configure Workflow for Assigned Ratings in the Growth Portfolio.
